This may be a bit ambitious[edit]

The industry includes the myriad of cable, telco, and DBS offerings, blu-ray players, networked av receivers, as well as stand-alone digital receivers and home media players. To make this relevant, you'll need to first capture the major managed service offerings by Comcast, DirecTV, Cablevision, TimeWarner Cable, Verizon FiOS, Dish Networks and Cox (not to mention Tivo and Sling). Each of them currently offers 3 to 5 different STBs. Or you can rename this to cover only stand-alone digital media receivers which I think was the intent. In the short term, at least get Roku in there since they are the number one standalone digital media receiver brand.Mattnad (talk) 07:57, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree the article is named poorly --Skunark (talk) 03:57, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested move or merge[edit]

This article is really more about digital media receivers. Accordingly, this can be moved to "Comparison of Digital media receivers" for all Digital media receivers or merged with that article. Any comments? Mattnad (talk) 16:34, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge "Comparison of Net-Connected Media Players" article content into this article[edit]

Comparison of Net-Connected Media Players is basically the same subject so I suggest that these to topics be merged, maybe to a new article named Comparison of Digital media receivers" for all Digital media receivers as already suggested above. 164.4.17.36 (talk) 13:29, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge "List of Net Connected Media Players" article content into this article[edit]

List of Net Connected Media Players is basically the same subject so I suggest that these to topics be merged, maybe to a new article named Comparison of Digital media receivers" for all Digital media receivers as already suggested above. 164.4.17.36 (talk)

List is erroneous[edit]

The Western Digital TV boxes DO have web browsers build in to them. It's just hidden. It can be accessed by going to the about screen in the settings, and hitting the search button on the remote. You can also navigate the browser via a USB keyboard or mouse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.67.119.190 (talk) 16:51, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How are streaming devices set-top boxes?[edit]

What about an Apple TV or a Chromecast makes it a set-top box? They are not converting any signal into an audiovisual display for a television. They are streaming media over the Internet, the same way any home computer would. If those devices somehow qualify as set-top boxes, then just about any consumer electronic that connects to a TV would be a set-top box! I think the definition needs to be defined in terms of this article, and then the list needs to be purged. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 07:53, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article is really misnamed. These are all Digital media receivers. So the definition would then be consistent with what's in the list, including AppleTV and Chromecast. I brought up this point a few years ago. I'm going to propose a move.Mattnad (talk) 14:54, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency[edit]

This list needs to be more consistent. Some device list Samba support; some list SMB. Should pick one or the other. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.31.106.35 (talk) 22:04, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Channel list needs to expand to other countries, maybe more[edit]

Currently there is a list of US channels supported on devices.

This needs to be expanded to include Canada, UK, Ireland, Caribbean, and over time other countries (focusing on English speaking countries to start for EN wikipedia, in Africa, Oceania)

Examples of services that are available in UK but not US would be BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, STV, My5, UKTV Play, and most of the US list is not available in the UK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:B378:AC00:8540:D48F:4A19:9A19 (talk) 23:03, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comcast Xfinity Flex[edit]

Should there be a new entry for the Flex (Xi-6) streaming box for Comcast broadband internet users? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjkirk12 (talkcontribs) 17:17, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Atari VCS[edit]

Should we add Atari VCS it shares a lot of the same apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV?Doremon764 (talk) 01:18, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
