Why don't merging this with tiltrotor?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.18.136.67 (talk) 21:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because convertiplanes includes more than just tilt-rotors, or even tilt wings. - BillCJ (talk) 22:11, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have an exemple of a convertiplane which is not a tiltrotor ? without one, it seems that convertiplane should redirect to tiltrotor, as all cited plane designs are tiltrotor...

For merge. XM8 Carbine (talk) 01:26, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Against: To answer the question above, the tiltrotor article distinguishes itself from the tiltwing as a distinct type. The Fairey Rotodyne represents yet a third class of convertiplane where nothing tilts. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 15:29, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

So, I found an article that states that the first functional VTOL airplane was built in Brazil in 1953: https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/convertiplano-o-pioneiro-esquecido_491.html

But one that states that the plane's engines weren't "strong enough" (but it's not clear whether or not it managed to fly): https://tecnoblog.net/meiobit/421362/convertiplano-como-o-brasil-teve-seu-proprio-werner-von-braun/ (this one has a few sources listed) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.181.244.57 (talk) 16:31, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
