Todo[edit]

Better intro, more impact, general copyedit. Jdorje 20:28, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We probably should use 10-minute averages for Southern Hemisphere cyclones, yet infobox says 1-min...despite the wind speed actually being 10-min figure. We need some standardization here, applicable for all SH cyclone articles.--Mikoyan21 18:01, 7 May 2006 (UTC

Hey 240 km/h is a Category 4 in the SSHS, i'll changed it to 10-minute sustained. Irfanfaiz 22:26, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will estimate it's 1-minute sustained winds i think it's around 265 to 275 km/h Irfanfaiz 22:28, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Finish the met. history, for starters. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:28, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Minimum Central Presssure[edit]

As per

Tropical Disturbance Advisory Number A11 issued from RSMC NADI issued on Dec 28/0831 UTC 2002.

The Tropical Cyclone ZOE 04F Minimum Central Pressure was [890hPa] located near 12.5S 169.5E at 280600 UTC. with Maximum 10-minute average winds near the centre estimated at 130 Knots.

I will edit the main article after some feedbacks.--Ugaap 08:27, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you happen to have a source? – Chacor 16:38, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose using the word "unofficial" when referring to Joint Typhoon Warning Center estimates or reports. They are official allright, even though not WMO 'official', and they have some of the best expertise around on WPac storms. --Mikoyan21 11:48, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, WMO is official, and since they've not designated the JTWC - who, mind, are not even professional meteorologists - as the RSMC, we can't say their pressures are official. The JTWC is U.S.-centric, and we don't encourage systemic bias. – Chacor 11:53, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
JTWC is US-centric (to be more precise, it's US DoD centric) but if it's not official, why their website says "This is an official U.S. Navy web site"? Sure, it's not designated by WMO (though they do co-operate), but using the word "unofficial" gives completely false impression. WeatherUnderground is "unofficial". --Mikoyan21 01:37, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It says that because the JTWC is a U.S. Navy office. The WMO is not the U.S. Navy. --Coredesat 02:48, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, how we are then to interpret the disclaimer at the website of RSMC Tokyo? "Please note that information issued by RSMC Tokyo-Typhoon Center is neither official analysis/forecast nor warning for the areas. Official information is to be issued by National Meteorological Services of the individual countries." Also remember that typhoons were named by JTWC until 1999; are those names "unofficial" then, even though they were recognized by WMO?--Mikoyan21 13:41, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The JMA is unofficial within those countries. However, the JMA is official in that it oversees forecasting within the basin, and the national meteorological services report to it. It's in the tropical cyclone programme's operational plan. --Coredesat 04:14, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does RSMC Nadi directly measure their central pressures (i.e hurricane hunters or buoys)? Where did they get that 890 number? -- §HurricaneERICarchive 20:51, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
