Move discussion[edit]

I disagree – the field is the field, the stadium is the stadium, no? TrbleClef 05:36, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

No, the field and stadium as a whole take on a new name once you name the field. Just like at the Univeristy of Florida's "Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field", and Georgia Tech's "Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field". AriGold 12:25, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I would still say the field is a distinct entity. It doesn't appear on any signs either, for what that's worth.
Wrong. I guess you didn't go to the stadium much. There is a giant garnet sign in the stadium, with gold lettering that reads "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium". Here's a picture, http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/fsu/galleries/fsu_pic_121004-122304/dsc_0062-lg.jpg And Here's something else... at FSU's official athletic website, under a list of all university sports facilities, it reads "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium". See: http://seminoles.collegesports.com/facilities/fsu-facilities.html Considering the sign IN THE STADIUM and the schools website both now refer to it as "Bobby Bowden Frield...", I think this is pretty clear. AriGold 16:29, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Or shouldn't it be called The University Center, The School of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts, The University Center Club, Department of Hospitality Administration, College of Social Work, Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium....? Not to be too unreasonable. TrbleClef 14:19, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
No, the field was named by the Florida Legislature, in Senate Bill 2316 in the 2000 Session, "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium", not "The University Center, The School of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts, The University Center Club, Department of Hospitality Administration, College of Social Work, Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium". AriGold 16:29, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Interesting choice on their part then. If that's the name of the facility then I vote to move. TrbleClef 13:40, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

"The" Florida State University and Clevelandguy's claim that it's not in the "legal name"[edit]

See FSU's webpage, that begins it's history with "The Florida State University, one of the largest and oldest of the ten institutions of higher learning in the State University System of Florida, had its beginning as early as 1823 when the Territorial Legislature began to plan a higher education system." as well as "The year 1947 saw many changes. Demand by returning World War II veterans had brought men back to the campus in 1946 with the establishment of the Tallahassee Branch of the University of Florida, and on May 15, 1947, the Governor signed an act of the Legislature returning Florida State College for Women to coeducational status and naming it The Florida State University. The Florida Legislature named it "The Florida State University", I would think that the law making body of the state pretty much determined the "legal name" there. http://www.fsu.edu/about/history.html AriGold 12:34, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Want more? Also see Florida Statute s. 1004.42 for more proof (the FL. Statutes are the statutory laws of the state as codified by the Florida Legislature). "There is hereby established a 4-year allopathic medical school within the Florida State University, to be known as the Florida State University College of Medicine, with a principal focus on recruiting and training medical professionals to meet the primary health care needs of the state, especially the needs of the state's elderly, rural, minority, and other underserved citizens." AriGold 12:34, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Quality rating[edit]

This article was rated as quality class B by WP College Football. That rating is too high for an article with absolutely no references. I have given it a rating of "Start" for WP Florida; the College Football WP might want to reassess this article. Horologium t-c 04:28, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell StadiumDoak Campbell Stadium – The common name for this stadium remains "Doak Campbell Stadium". "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium" is the long (and cumbersome) official name, which doesn't matter much for Wikipedia's purposes. "Doak Campbell Stadium" -llc -wikipedia returns 643 Google Books hits, versus only 6 for "Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium" -llc -wikipedia. Google news is similar; the shorter name returns 309 articles, versus none for the long name. The Google News archives, even since the longer name was adopted in 2004, still overwhelmingly prefer the shorter name, returning 1,860 sources since 2004 versus 33 for the longer name. The official name can be explained in the text, and I'd recommend leaving it in the lead.--Cúchullain t/c 15:59, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
