"Dickens' dyslexia"?

[edit]

In the Origins section, the following can be read: "The marker identified Scroggie as a "meal man" (corn merchant), but Dickens misread this as "mean man", due to the fading light and his mild dyslexia." The sources for this "dyslexia" actually state it as "an episode of mild dyslexia" - making it a mocking figure of speech. Furthermore, when searching for the word 'dyslexia' on the article concerning Charles Dickens, the search gives zero results. Can this "mild dyslexia" be confirmed, or should it be deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.182.2.172 (talk) 12:51, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This whole section is highly doubtful. It seems the whole story of Ebeneezer Scroggie may be a hoax [1]. The original source from which the story evolved is a palpable fantasy [2]. Paul B (talk) 11:05, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As the Scroggie story has been revived yet again, I've added a comment to the article citing one of Paul B's links from above. The citation itself remarks on the popularity of the story, so - hoax or not - I think perhaps it's worth leaving in along with a note such as the one I added. Then anyone looking at the page can make up their own minds. I suppose it might be better moved to the "popular culture" section though. Pastychomper (talk) 14:18, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Bud, I just read the whole page of the link you putted, and there was nothing said about the story of Scrooge be a hoax, only "supposedly" and it (sadly or not) means nothing.
Furthermore, the other link leads to a site that was probably taken down from there, so literally none of the links serve as a solid argument.
It is very important to remember that the story is fictional but not a hoax, because it can indeed become a reality, I am in no way disqualifying your argument, just saying that a website that barely talks about and when it argues is a POV and a non-existent page does not give much credibility, let's be honest with ourselves. 177.105.90.14 (talk) 22:43, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The following links in the 'Appearance in the novella' did not make sense:

"damned to walk to the Earth for eternity" leading to the 'Hell in Christian beliefs' entry. 'Hell' and 'walking the earth for eternity' are two separate forms of posthumous punishment; hell is definitively a different place than earth. I have changed the link to point to the Damnation entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damnation

"Tiny Tim has died; his father could not afford to give him proper care on his small manager salary" leading to the 'Child neglect' entry. This seems a bit harsh on poor Bob Cratchit, who wasn't neglecting his son but was instead treating him to the best of his financial ability. I have removed the link.

"The spirit then shows Scrooge scenes related to the death of a "wretched man"" leading to the 'Extortion' entry. This implies the spirit was extorting Scrooge, which doesn't make sense; the spirits' actions are for Scrooge's good, not their own. I have removed the link.

The link to "Mr Fezziwig" redirects to the main entry for the novella, as presumably he isn't deemed a major enough character to have his own entry. I have removed the link. Kilburn London (talk) 09:22, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just modified 3 external links on Ebenezer Scrooge. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:

Organizational suggestions

[edit]

Hey guys! I was wondering if you thought it would be a good idea to help with the flow of the article by putting in some more headings. For instance, a section for each ghost, or a section for the epistemology of Scrooge's name, etc.. I also thought it might be a good idea to try and find some pictures for a few of the appearances for Scrooge. I think that would really liven up the atmosphere in the article. Right now it seems a little dry to me. Thanks! Cbladh1 (talk) 04:01, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Team-B-Vital Improvement Drive

[edit]

Hello all!

This article has been chosen as this week's effort for WP:Discord's #team-b-vital channel, a collaborate effort to bring Vital articles up to a B class if possible, similar to WP:Articles for Improvement. This effort will run for up to seven days, ending early if the article is felt to be at B-class or impossible to further improve. Articles are chosen by a quick vote among interested chatters, with the goal of working together on interesting Vital articles that need improving.

This is a special Christmas selection and double article week: Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus + Ebenezer Scrooge

Thank you! -- ferret (talk) 01:11, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What citations?

[edit]

The section on "Portrayals" has been flagged with a "Citation needed" banner. I don't understand why. Each item listed contains a link to the article on that item, which confirms that the person listed as having played that role did, in fact, play that role.

Beyond this, what sort of citations are needed? 74.95.43.253 (talk) 01:28, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
