Electronic News Gathering

Not Just News Gathering

[edit]

Being an ENG Camera Operator, the term of Electronic News Gathering doesn't really pertain to the name as much anymore. The national cable company I work for refers to their mobile handheld camera operators as ENG Camera Operators, even when outside of a traditional 'news' role. Generally, ENG Cameras differ from regular studio and mobile production cameras as they are more lightweight, do not have the same signal connections and have their own tape recording mechanism.

As well, ENG operations allow for a more fluid and dynamic shooting environment over traditional camera setups due to the constraints of cables, dollys and rigging that the traditional systems use and the actual location of filming. Because of this and current technology the role of ENG equipment is becoming more predominant in non-traditional uses. Inari 01:10, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Helicopter re-fueling?

[edit]

(This article is linked to from the helicopter article.)
How long can an ordinary news helicopter stay on station before needing to refuel? How many hours can such ordinary helicopters be operated before needing significant maintenance? -69.87.200.63 13:40, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Channel Relocation

[edit]

I think the FCC has auctioned off the channels to NEXTEL and NEXTEL is paying for all the stations hardware updates to be relocated to a smaller bandwith transmission, but I don't know for sure —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beck162 (talkcontribs) 17:43, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
