Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment[edit]

This article was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment, between 22 August 2019 and 6 December 2019.

Impossibility[edit]

How could she have resigned from the post of president in 1953, when she gained that post in 1954? If anyone can prove that that is actually possible without a time warp, time machine, a rip in the space-time continum, or a wormhole, I will be happy to say that I messed up and that user is a genius. Until then, this needs to be corrected, and fast, so that no student messes up thier report due to some silly person not paying attention to common sense.

Good point, although it could be made with slightly less sarcasm. Corrected. Dwalls (talk) 17:38, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because she gained the presidency in 1952 and resigned in 1953, i think that you could have said it without being so rude. The person that wrote that obviously spent a lot time on this so you didnt have to be so rude about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.13.135.131 (talk) 21:56, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Story about grandparents[edit]

In the book "Ella Baker:Freedom Bound" it states that her grandfather would tell her the stories, and her grandmother was never whipped for refusing to marry Miss Baker's Uncle Carter. That was the master's wife that wanted her grandmother whipped but the master refused to whip her. Her grandfather said that Miss Baker's grandmother was the master's daughter and thats why he refused to whip her for refusing to marry "Uncle Carter" who was a more light-skinned black man than himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rochus-in-rice1 (talk) 04:01, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifying sentence in SCLC section[edit]

I was just wondering if the following sentence could be made a little clearer, did she gain respect for her own organizing abilities or did the other organizers gain respect for her abilities? "Baker worked closely with southern civil rights activists in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, and gained respect for her organizing abilities." This sentence shows up midway through the second paragraph under SCLC.

Sorry if this is a kinda pointless edit/suggestion, I am new to Wikipedia Sevjo (talk) 21:59, 16 January 2020 (UTC)Sevjo[reply]

Citation needed to cite that Angela Davis was acquitted of all charges. https://archives.nypl.org/scm/20821

[1] Kasellsworth (talk) 04:54, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: That citation needed tag was almost certainly in the wrong place - based on the edit swapping the {{more citations needed}} maintenance template for inline CN tags, it's highly unlikely that this statement was being questioned. The statement is wholly uncontroversial and is highly unlikely to be challenged at any point - adding a citation would not be helpful in this instance. I have moved the CN tag to the previous sentence, where it was likely intended to be placed. Tollens (talk) 05:21, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this book in "Further reading"?[edit]

This looks like an error:

There are no cites of the book and no reference to Ellen Swallow Richards in the article. I'm going to remove it. — ob C. alias ALAROB 02:23, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
