Linguistic error

In the section about the Old Testament this appears:

it relies on a reading of the Hebrew word『rûah』as "evil spirit".

That is not correct:『rûah』is translated as "spirit"; it is the companion word rā·‘āh that is where the issue lies. It is translated as "evil", "distressing", troubling", "harmful", or "tormenting" in this passage in various translations, and in other passages it is rendered also as "unsettling" or "wild". Its etymology is uncertain, but most connect it to the Hebrew word for "catastrophe", and thus the negative view.

I can't assess the citation to the Catholic Encyclopedia since the reference is not sufficiently specific to find the actual source. Without that, I just leave this note and won't attempt a change in the article. Dismalscholar (talk) 06:16, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
