Lebron James Best player in the NBA

[edit]

Lebron James has the most points in the NBA. He has 4 rings and he's just him so admit it he's the best NBA player ever. 47.189.167.159 (talk) 03:22, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Major college sports

[edit]

UCF is now a major college sports school, being a member of the Big 12 as of 2023 97.103.156.9 (talk) 23:07, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New York south?

[edit]

New York-south That's mostly opinion to describe Florida (especially South Florida)? or Central Florida? (Not North Florida because of the Southern hospitality (meaning friendly-ness and nice, not everyone is not) Winnebaggo (talk) 12:59, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you created the redirect, so I have to ask how common is that phrase used in referring to Florida. Item number 8 under Wikipedia:Redirect#Reasons for deleting says, If the redirect is a novel or very obscure synonym for an article name that is not mentioned in the target, it is unlikely to be useful. I get what the phrase is inferring, but I grew up in Miami and lived in Florida for 80 years, and I don't recall seeing or hearing that phrase used with that meaning. Donald Albury 16:42, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I understand what Winnebaggo's word salad says; it's pretty incoherent. I see that a lot of this editor's edits are reverted—there's a reason for that, and this useless "New York South" redirect should join them. I've lived in Florida since 1965, and I have heard the expression "North Florida is the South, and South Florida is the North", or words to that effect, but I always thought, "huh, you've never driven on the highways in Jacksonville." ;-) I've never heard anyone call South Florida "New York South", though. Carlstak (talk) 17:25, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of Jacksonville, I have heard the one about Jacksonville being the largest city in southern Georgia, although that is 40 or 50 years old. Donald Albury 20:11, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. People around the area still say that—it's true in many ways. Michael Ray Fitzgerald, in his quite literate book Jacksonville and the Roots of Southern Rock, says "In fact, some observers, culturally speaking, consider Jacksonville not only part of south Georgia but the virtual capital of south Georgia... North Florida is not like the rest of the state: record producer Tom Dowd said, "Florida is the only place in the world where you have to go north to get the South." Carlstak (talk) 22:25, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Winnebaggo:, I did a quick search on Google, and the only hit on "New York south" was a map of NYC. It looks to me like that redirect is something that you invented. Unless you can convince me that the term has actually been used, I will nominate the redirect for deletion. Donald Albury 20:13, 11 April 2024 (UTC) Resave to trigger corrected ping. - Donald Albury 20:16, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The redirect New York South has been listed at redirects for discussion to determine whether its use and function meets the redirect guidelines. Readers of this page are welcome to comment on this redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2024 April 12 § New York South until a consensus is reached. Semi-protected edit request

[edit]

In the intro, where it mentions Florida bordering Cuba, please mention that this is a maritime border. In the Geography section where it mentions that “Florida is west of the Bahamas and 90 miles (140 km) north of Cuba”, please adjust the latter part to “and its southernmost part is 90 miles (140 km) north of Cuba”. Florida is big and thus this needs to be specified. 108.147.171.11 (talk) 15:35, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done See my suggestion below. - Donald Albury 21:30, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative suggestion for lead

[edit]

As an alternative to the requested edit above, I suggest: "Florida is separated from Cuba to the south and the Bahamas to the east by the Straits of Florida. The narrowest part of the Straits between Florida (at Key West) and Cuba is 93 miles (150 km) wide, and the narrowest part of the Straits between Florida (at Miami) and the Bahamas (at Bimini) is 50 miles (80 km) wide." Discuss. - Donald Albury 21:30, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is even better. 2600:100C:A211:7F18:ECAA:B268:C695:38E6 (talk) 02:24, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
