Name

[edit]

Is this article name misspelled since the territory is called French Guiana? --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 21:48, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Sorry, the French spelling threw me.

2002 and "French Antilles franc"

[edit]

Didn't the 3 territories (French Guiana, Martinique, and Guadeloupe) adopt French franc in 1975? Should we create French Antilles franc for the common franc between 1960 (?) to 1975? --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 21:50, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure. The name French Antilles doesn't appear on the notes, just the names of the three departements. I suspect that Pick may have "invented" the name French Antilles, which is why I didn't use it. If we can get a clear indication that this name had (has) real meaning then we could create French Antilles franc without risk.

Initial google search seem to indicate the term refer to the two island territories. And the absence of article on Wikipedia worries me further. However, GFD uses this term. For example:
When the Nouveau Franc was introduced on January 1, 1960, the Caisse Centrale began to issue the French Antilles Metropolitan Franc (XNF) for Guadeloupe, Guyane and Martinique. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 23:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Antilles makes it clear that the term shouldn't be used for French Guiana. We need to mention French Antilles because Pick's usage has given the term some currency (excuse the pun) but I think we're best not following his lead in terms of classification.
