The Greatest?

[edit]

Surely James Galway and Karlheinz Zoller could also lay claim to being the greatest orchestral flautists? There are others too from the USA, while as soloists Rampal must rate very highly. David Martland 14:02, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have rewritten the article following his death, deleting the above and replacing it with a quotation form the Daily Telegraph Obituary which I think is more appropriate. Peter I. Vardy 14:17, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your additions using the Daily Telegraph obituary are inaccurate. With reference to your opinion above, Galway and Rampal would generally be thought of as primarily soloists rather than orchestral musicians. More importantly, you reference Morris's relationship with Klemperer as "at best cordial". This is entirely wrong. Firstly, that quote refers to Karajan. Secondly, Morris had a profound musical and personal relationship with Klemperer over a long period of time - indeed, Klemperer bequethed Gareth Morris his entire musical library on his death on the (tongue in cheek) condition that he "tend his grave in perpetuity". I have this as first hand information from Gareth Morris. Elisa2t 15:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
