They are different concepts now, but at the time (1600s) universality is pretty much what all the philosophical languages were going for. (Or looking for the original 'Adamic language', but I think they'd consider that roughly equivalent to 'universal'.) See e.g. Leibniz's similar work at around the same period. I don't know Dalgarno's, but it's a reasonable guess that it was doing the same. --Sai¿?✍00:20, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
