Location[edit]

Yes, its technically in the Mojave Desert, but its located on the Fort Irwin cantonment. Wouldn't it make more sense to narrow down the location instead of just saying "Mojave Desert"? Its mentioned that its on Fort Irwin on this page, and also on the Fort Irwin NTC page. I respectfully suggest that the infobox be updated to reflect its actual location, as opposed to saying its in a desert roughly 47,000 sq km wide. 24.117.95.111 (talk) 11:54, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name of article[edit]

Is this the proper name for the page? It seems to me like as the Goldstone site is only a part of the Deep Space Network, that the name should remain Goldstone Observatory. However, I am not too familiar with the DSN, so maybe someone else can make the call. --zandperl 00:52, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I don't know if you still have this page on your watchlist, but yes the name is correct. DSN is composed of three Deep Space Communications Complexes (Goldstone, Canberra, and Madrid), an operations center and voice communications at JPL, and the network connecting them. I believe that "Goldstone Observatory" is a subset of GDSCC because GDSCC consists of multiple antennas (radio telescopes/ground stations).RockinRobTalk 04:03, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Website in infobox is (slightly) wrong.[edit]

Hi!

I gave up following templates after the 3rd :-)

Current URL redirects to just [https://www.gdscc.nasa.gov/]

How to fix it?

location is wrong[edit]

The source code for the article lists two different locations (separately in the two nested infoboxes):

But the actual displayed location is:

It turns out that the infobox display machinery is wrongly ignoring both location= parameters, and fetching location data from Wikidata, and then wrongly picking randomly from among the four states the Mojave Desert is listed there is spanning.

This is being discussed at Template talk:Infobox observatory#location parm being ignored.

So no change to this article's source code can fix the broken location for now, but it would be good to settle on one of the two location designations, for when the infobox machinery is (hopefully eventually) fixed. —Steve Summit (talk) 12:27, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
