Notes on 11-15-2021 Rewrite[edit]

Since this article was a stub, I decided to write a new article. I utilized as much as I could of the original article, however to get a comprehensive look and to improve readability, I did change the layout substantially. In terms of sources, I mainly relied on the current Mendes excavations by the Redfords, Mendes II by de Meulenaere and MacKay, and the Mittelman 2006 dissertation. That being said, I made sure to research everything being cited as far back as I could. This was intended to get rid of the telephone effect of sources being cited in sources in sources, with differing interpretations down the line.

One portion of the article I decided to research extensively was the Connections with other gods section. I was able to find a significant information regarding Isis, a single source from antiquity regarding Nephthys, however when it came to Hathor I ran into some difficulties. The references I found that cited Hatmehit as a form of Hathor relied on material from Dendera, specifically in volumes I and II. Unfortunately, when looked in context and read thoroughly, these two locations specifically refer to Isis. However, it is interesting to note that in Dendera temple Hathor and Isis are presented in a way that intersects and overlaps. There are even portions of the temple where a composite Isis-Hathor or Hathor-Isis is attested. However, with these specific citations I can't in good conscience state that it is a fact that they were connected in antiquity. I can see it as a possibility, certainly. I just don't have any evidence I would feel comfortable citing. For this reason, I very specifically worded that section to reflect what some Egyptologists have stated without pulling in further evidence from particular locales.

I may be back soon with additional edits to the article, but as I have been working on it for quite a while at this point and it is pretty much done, I have decided to upload it. There are some very minor citations that I was unable to get my hands on in a reasonable amount of time. However, the rest of everything I cited I do have on hand, so if anyone has any questions I am happy to answer. Mendesian (talk) 00:21, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
