"Is" or "Was"?[edit]

This magazine appears to be out of print, and news articles have come out to that effect. See the sources at the end of "Publication history." I notice that someone has reverted my change to the first line, where I changed it from "Heavy Metal is" to "Heavy Metal was." I'm happy for this change to be made if the editor can provide a source that shows the magazine still exists. For now, though, I'm going to change it back and hope this doesn't spark an edit war.

Publication dates[edit]

The article says the HM wasn't published from 1987-2002. That doesn't seem correct to me. Even though I didn't read it that time pediod, I'm pretty sure I occasionally saw it at the newstand. ike9898 14:31, Apr 3, 2004 (UTC)

I don't think it's right either. I know I bought a few issues in that time period. Maybe it was referring to just Métal Hurlant? I'm changing the text to refer to just that magazine. —Frecklefoot 14:13, Apr 5, 2004 (UTC)
So was Freckelfoot's guess correct? It's sad to think that information might be wrong yet have been sitting there for four years uncorrected. Not being a HM/MH buff, I'm clueless. I just checked GCD and couldn't make sense of their current listing, it's all these undated volume numbers. --AC (talk) 07:34, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A check to the Métal Hurlant article, as well was the presumably more authoritative french version give pretty much the same dates. "Never mind." --AC (talk) 07:47, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hurlant in English is "howling" or "screaming"?[edit]

The current article says "screaming", but Métal_Hurlant prefers "howling". There is a difference:

  Scream \Scream\ (skr[=e]m), v. i. [imp. & p. p. {Screamed}
     (skr[=e]md); p. pr. & vb. n. {Screaming}.] [Icel. skraema to
scare, terrify; akin to Sw. skr[aum]ma, Dan. skraemme. Cf.
     {Screech}.]
To cry out with a shrill voice; to utter a sudden, sharp
outcry, or shrill, loud cry, as in fright or extreme pain; to
     shriek; to screech.
     [1913 Webster]

  Howl \Howl\, v. i. [imp. & p. p. {Howled}; p. pr. & vb. n.
{Howling}.] [OE. houlen, hulen; akin to D. huilen, MHG.
hiulen, hiuweln, OHG. hiuwil[=o]n to exult, h?wo owl, Dan.
     hyle to howl.]

     1. To utter a loud, protracted, mournful sound or cry, as
        dogs and wolves often do.
        [1913 Webster]

Judging only from etymology, howling seems better. --AC (talk) 07:57, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Sentence[edit]

"Heavy Metal's high-quality artwork is notable." What kind of sentence is this for an encyclopedia? CoW mAnX (talk) 07:32, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's notable if most magazines featured lower-quality artwork. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.73.70.113 (talk) 00:40, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Volume numbering debacle[edit]

Beginning with March 1992 (supposedly Vol.16 #1 but numbered Vol.15 #6 - same as Jan/92) the issue numbers on the title page went crazy. For instance, May 93 is numbered Vol.30, #7! It looks as if the next issue (July) is correctly Vol.17 #3. The '93 Specials don't appear to have been affected.

I can find no place on the web where this matter is addressed. I think a mention here would be nice, or at least a reference. Dmforcier (talk) 21:46, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The series "Interceptor" is being adapted into a film. Or is it?[edit]

The sentence "The series "Interceptor" is being adapted into a film." quotes a source from 2015. A quick web search shows no news of that project in 2020. Bela59 (talk) 12:13, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Heavy metal"[edit]

FYI, the meaning and usage of Heavy metal (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) is under discussion, for the move request, see talk:heavy metal music -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 05:50, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
