Proper issuance date[edit]

@Biblicalhope:

It would appear that Innocent VIII issued this bull on 27 April 1487, not on 27 July 1487. Also, we should try to use sources from at least the 20th century. --Kansas Bear (talk) 21:50, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

20th century sources are going to use older sources for their citations. The original text of the bull preserved at cambridge per the moreland manuscripts with the seal lists explicitly June 1487. Sometimes 20th century sources will cite each other continuing an error. However the bull Stated "Vigesima sexta mensis Junii". Though it was not July, I agree. 20th century sources can be wrong and in this case, the original text reads "vigesima sexta mensis junii". If you wish to change the date to april with those sources though, I will not dispute. Thank you for the interest and passion for history. 104.128.161.63 (talk) 12:26, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it might have been on the 26th of June instead of the 27th. I'll see if I can get a copy of the original bull from cambridge. Biblicalhope (talk) 12:35, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It would appear Phillip Schaff has the original date listed as May 5th 1487 in Rome but the date of 26th of june was the signing at the convent of St Laurence. Biblicalhope (talk) 12:56, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, "Wikipedia articles should be based mainly on reliable secondary sources..."
Primary sources need to be supported by secondary sources to avoid WP:OR. --Kansas Bear (talk) 14:12, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
never mind, you are correct. It was first promulgated on april 27th 1487 in Rome which is the 5th kalends of may on the julian calendar. It was signed later in june in the text but yes it was promulgated on april 27th. editing now. Biblicalhope (talk) 14:27, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
