References[edit]

I am in the process of looking for references on this topic. I remember an article in the Baltimore Sun several years ago on illegal hacking, and it provided the most extensive information to date. I am still trying to locate that article.Hellno2 (talk) 15:37, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting the article :-)

Found the article for you -- it's in the Reference section. There's a lot more references we could add to the article as well. Might be nice to include a couple of pictures too. SONORAMA (talk) 11:21, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not having a reference but mere personal knowledge, I will only point out here that the distinction between a car with (faux or former) taxi markings here said to be called "gypsy" and a normal-looking private car here called a "hack" does not conform to actual usage and introduces a false impression of precision. Both would be called a gypsy, at least in the western United States, within the taxi-driving masses.9eyedeel (talk) 11:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

The title of this article is silly. Gypsy cabs are informal/gray-market/unlicensed as opposed to "illegal" per se. -WikiSkeptic (talk) 20:12, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have a good point. Got any suggestion for a new title?SONORAMA (talk) 10:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well I guess we can't use "gypsy cabs". -WikiSkeptic (talk) 16:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Paid-for, unbookable, uninsured, shared rides offered to previously unaquainted people"? "Effect of carpooling on taxi industry, subsection", "hitch-hiking with payment to the kind spirit offering the ride", "potentially illegal uses of a car, subsection", "Benefits of having a car, subsection"... What? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.156.18.176 (talk) 07:42, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why not "Gypsy Cabs"? "Unlicensed Taxicabs" could be another.Cerkit (talk) 19:25, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Medallion System its own article?[edit]

I think that the Medallion system merits its own article. There is already a synopsis included in this article which could serve as an introduction. Surely there are regional experts who could flesh out sections pertaining to specific cities. Cerkit (talk) 19:28, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Researching who will insure Amish taxis[edit]

(Moved from Talk:Amish taxi...)

There doesn't seem to be any officially published information about who does or doesn't insure Amish taxis.

So the easiest thing to do is to just simply ask the various major insurers, like State Farm, Geico, Allstate, Travelers, Progressive, etc. Though I am not at all sure how to cite the responses I get from these companies, since it is an email response directly to me. Also, I do not know what companies insure taxis so that I can ask them directly. DMahalko (talk) 12:03, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
