This is regretable: "Indirect rule" is normally traced, as a concept, to British Africa. For more, see Frederick Lugard. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 18:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awful article

[edit]

I assume taken verbaitum from the 1911 Britanica. Lugard, as above, should be integrated, and there should at least be "See also" pointers to existing wikipedia articles that cover this concept.

I did some small cleaning, but it needs much more. e.g. calling colonized rulers "Heathen princes" is cringe-worthy.T L Miles 15:35, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

July 2012 tags are nonsense

[edit]

The tags indicating this is a personal essay are nonsense. This article hits all the basic points you'd find in any textbook of West African history or European colonial history. Since the person who drive-by tagged this also did not follow up in any way here, I'm removing the tags until any reasonable argument for their inclusion can be made.T L Miles (talk) 15:24, 20 September 2012 (UTC) There are few big problems in this. For example, it says Uganda had a monarchy which is incorrect. Buganda, which is part of Uganda has a monarchy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.227.58.29 (talk) 05:13, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
