Change to "IL1B interleukin 1, beta" and have IL1B reditect there?[edit]

Since it appears that the "Official Full Name" of the gene is "interleukin 1, beta" (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=3553) should the article's name be changed to that and have IL1B (the Official Symbol" (and variants, like "IL1β", "interleukin 1, β", and "interleukin 1β") redirect to the new title?

Or, is it better to keep the symbol name as the main page--it is easier, anyway--and create redirects of the others to it?

Matthew, I've seen titles for gene pages go both ways -- by the name and by the symbol. The ProteinBoxBot will default to using the gene symbol, mostly because some of the official gene names can be long and nonintuitive. Check out MMP9 for example... But creating redirects from common names I think is a good idea. Go for it... Cheers, AndrewGNF 17:03, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
