False claim: "First wife of a vice president or president to hold a salaried position during her husband's tenure"[edit]

Hillary Clinton was a senator for the final 17 days of Bill Clinton's term, making this claim not true. Can I delete this? Zsrocks04 (talk) 05:32, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, don't delete this. The meaningfulness of the claim is about holding a real job throughout most or all of a first ladyship, not some tiny fraction at the end of a tenure. Wasted Time R (talk) 11:21, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And yet, it's simply not true. If your claim is about the meaningfulness, I'd argue that being a senator is a hell of a lot more meaningful than community college professor. I understand your point, and I'm going to change it to "during the majority of her husbands tenure". Zsrocks04 (talk) 00:46, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. This is why Wikipedia gets its reputation for pedantry. Hillary was First Lady of the United States for 2,922 days, of which she was a U.S. Senator for 17 days. Do you see how minuscule that is? It's about half of a percent. And here's the important part. Hillary maintained her career as a lawyer throughout her time as First Lady of Arkansas, and she could have continued on with that career once she became FLOTUS. But she chose not to. By comparison, Jill Biden did choose to continue her career when she became FLOTUS, and that career has become part of her first ladyship and her public image. That's the important distinction (and despite what you seem to think, community college professors can make a real difference in people's lives). Hillary has many important firsts – first and still only FLOTUS to run for office, to serve in elective office, to serve in a cabinet position, to get a presidential nomination – but first FLOTUS to hold a paying job is not one of them. That distinction belongs solely to Jill Biden. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:58, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. This is why Wikipedia gets its reputation for inaccuracy and bias. The goal should be accuracy, not making a point and altering the facts to give someone a "distinction." Zsrocks04's change preserves whatever point there is to be made, while having the distinction of also being accurate. John2510 (talk) 18:22, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Encouraging Joe Biden to step aside in 2024 presidential run[edit]

Include reference to the very many publications pointing to Jill Biden's roll in convincing Joe Biden to step aside in the 2024 presidential race based on his universally panned performance in the June 27th debate with Donald Trump. See the New York Times for reference: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/28/us/politics/jill-biden-says-she-reassured-the-president-in-the-moments-after-a-dismal-debate.html?searchResultPosition=2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Calengr1 (talkcontribs) 04:54, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Based at least on the article title, I think the actual situation was that she convinced Joe Biden not to step aside. Otherwise, yes it is information that can be added, though I don't have the time to do so myself. Liu1126 (talk) 05:39, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah there seemed to be a WP:PAYWALL for the article but I agree, the title seems to point towards Jill Biden doubling down on Joe Biden staying in the race, not dropping out. Eruditess (talk) 16:50, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Geardona (talk to me?) 18:02, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Her first husband Bill Stevenson[edit]

He tells the story of working an Biden's campaign, and how he found out his then-wife Jill was having an affair with Biden because Biden crashed Jill's Corvette.

Stepsons removed[edit]

Why were the stepsons removed from the info box? She practically raised them and they called her mom. cookie monster 755 02:16, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Was the claim reliably sourced? If it was I could see challenging the removal of that edit. Eruditess (talk) 16:48, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Eruditess, in this recent Washington Post article here about Hunter Biden's trial: Through much of the trial, Jill Biden, Hunter’s mother, sat in the gallery.Inthis Washington Post discussing Jill Biden's role as Hunter's stepmom, I knew, for example, when, during the investigation into Hunter’s gun purchase, Jill Biden in 2022 told reporters, “I’m his mom,” and, “I love my son.” and furthermore, I knew that in Joe Biden’s 2007 memoir, he recalled an incident in which a magazine fact-checker called him, confused. The fact-checker had asked young Beau and Hunter questions about their “stepmother,” but the boys had responded that they didn’t have a stepmother. “Neilia would always be Mommy,” Joe writes, “but Jill was Mom.” In Hunter's deposition to Congress: “It was a way that I was going to redeem myself, is that I was going to show everybody that I was okay, that I wasn’t out of my mind in the midst of addiction, and that what I was going to do is … get my mom this beautiful corner office that was there, and she would love it, and we’d all be okay.” He refers to Jill as his mom and Jill refers to Hunter as his son. Beau and Hunter should, in my opinion, be listed in her infobox as her children with (stepson) and/or a note referencing the references I provided here. Jill did not legally adopt Beau and Hunter, but it is clear that she essentially de facto adopted them by raising them. Their biological mother Neilia Hunter Biden died when Beau and Hunter were 3 and 2, respectively. This source also explains "From ‘Jill’ to ‘Mom’ — inside Jill Biden’s relationship with Beau and Hunter". I think that her sons (stepsons) should be included. cookie monster 755 00:47, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am considering WP:BOLD adding it, but wanted to ask for feedback first. cookie monster 755 00:50, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks okay to me. Be bold and add it in. Seems like you arent getting any pushback here. And if you do, you have established that it has some weight in RS. Eruditess (talk) 17:49, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
