Untitled[edit]

This is my first attempt to add fairly major changes to an article. Unfortunately, I don't actually know a lot about the man beyond one series of his books and his Guardian columns. Contributions, corrections, etc, gratefully received.

Apparently I am supposed to cite my sources. I took the names and ISBNs and publishers of the books off the backs of my copies of them. They are different from the ISBNs on Amazon. I don't know why. So I left mine in and ignored Amazon's. I took the (minimal, I know) details on his career from an issue of UCL News which covered his retirement and from the URLs listed in "External References". If they should be in the talk section, or the URL above in the main article, please rearrange to taste.

Literary theory[edit]

There was a reference to literary theory in the version I edited. It fell out. Feel free to restore it. I don't know anything about literary theory.

Text messaging[edit]

"Beep. It's from Hamlet. 2B? NT2B?=???", from Reuters, on Nov. 16th, available at [1] was my source. I doubt that link will last long, and I don't know how to cite it.--Prosfilaes 20:36, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford World's Classics[edit]

"He is especially noteworthy for being the only author published by the significant imprintofOxford University Press, Oxford World's Classics during his own lifespan."

"Henry V, War Criminal? and Other Shakespeare Puzzles" by Sutherland, published in that series, was co-authored by Cedric Watts. I haven't done an exhaustive search, but it strikes me unlikely that's the only exception.--Prosfilaes 03:41, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy[edit]

Just created/edited the controversy section. Here are some links:

Need Help with "Lives of the Novelists: A History of Fiction in 294 Lives"[edit]

The Talk page for the film version of the John Fowles novel “The Magus” needs your help. There is confusion whether Peter Sellers (quoted by William Goldman) or Woody Allen (quoted by John Sutherland) when asked whether he would make changes in his life if he had the opportunity to do it all over again, joked, "I would do everything exactly the same except I wouldn't see The Magus. See Talk:The Magus (film).

If you have a copy of the relevant book and can confirm or not the quote, please update The Magus (film) talk page. Thanks.Masato.harada (talk) 16:49, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
