Tourist Warning[edit]

Please leave the tourist warning on the page. It would be better in a tourist guide to Kanchipuram or Tamil Nadu; however, until a seperate page is created, this is the page that visitors to the city would find in Wikipedia. Harrasment of visitors to temples and silk shops is a problem which the local authorities appear to ignor so visitors need to be wary. Thank you.

A Wikipedia article is an encyclopedia article on the city, and hence not the place to put up tourist warnings. Why not put up a link to the Lonely Planet article on the city? Imc 16:30, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Because one does not exist on line.

POLLUTION AT MADAMBAKKAM,TABARAM[edit]

OTHER FACE OF MADAMBAKKAM... Respected Sir/Madam, We are the people from Madambakkam village,Tambaram Taluk,Kanchipuram district, from the below mentioned address... Madambakkam is famous for its ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in the suburb of Chennai called Madambakkam, near Tambaram. This temple is over 1000 years old (956-973 AD), which is said to have been built during the reign of Parantaka Chola II or Sundara Chola, father of Rajaraja Chola 1 (who constructed Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur). The temple is believed to be rebuilt of stone during the reign of Kulothunga Chola1.

Near to this temple,a place alloted for buriyal ground from the ancient period onwards is purposely and wantedly used/encroached by the madambakkam town panchayat for dumping the wastages/debris/plastic covers, etc. This buriyal ground is surrounded by a residential area with nearly 300 houses,Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Sub station,a Lake with water resource. This water resource is being used by the people for drinking purpose, supplied by the madambakkam panchayat board.
Due to this dumping of these wastages, the ground water got polluted, air pollution due to burning of the wastages which leads to severe respiratory problems for aged people and childrens. This has become a regular problem from panchayat, giving mental stress and regular medical expenses. This road is the connection point between madambakkam and vengaivasal panchayat. This road is being used by school childrens, college students and other working professionals to proceed with their daily studies/activities.
Madambakkam village, an ancient village is stongly and very badly polluted both air, soil and water resources; and people's health is also very seriously affected. As a resident people of madambakkam,we kindly request you to protect our resources and human lives.
We kindly request to take immediate measur and action for the above mentioned problems and we expect a proper and satisfactory solution,we need our buriyal ground back safely, also our residential area should be protected from pollution problems encountered due to the above causes.
