Untitled[edit]

Would people object to moving this page to Kansas State Wildcats? Smith03 00:23, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fine with me. It seems that all of the universities' athletic pages are changing to this type of designation. Kgwo1972 21:31, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Most successful basketball coaches[edit]

Seems a little funny to put Huggins in the "most successful" list before he's coached a game. Although he has had a lot of success generating buzz for the program and improving recruiting.

"K-State" designation[edit]

I realize that the official nickname is "K-State," but is it proper to use this title 10 times in an encyclopedic article? Should it not be standardized across the article? Some of the uses seem to be because of the writers overuse of the name, and has substituted it with something shorter and easier to read. This may need to be re-written to make it easier to read, possibly eliminating some of the overuse. Jlricherson 05:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of proposed merger of Kansas State track and field[edit]

The website proposed to be merged with this page actually covers high school track and field in the state of Kansas, not the sport of track and field at Kansas State University. Therefore, a merger with this Kansas State Wildcats article would be inappropriate. Kgwo1972 23:16, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. Didn't see that. Never mind then. --Alynna 23:58, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect "regular season" in 1998?[edit]

This comment is made in response to an edit by an anonymous poster. I believe that the the Big 12 Championship Gameisnot part of the regular season, and the article itself states that the championship game is "held after the regular season is completed." Therefore, I believe it is proper to say KSU had a perfect 11-0 regular season in 1998. Kgwo1972 03:18, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hmmm... I'm a Wildcat fan, so I'm looking at this through "Purple-Colored Glasses" and I'd really, really, really like to agree. Do conference championships count for "regular season" games... I'd have to ask: what do other conferences do? And the first thing that comes to mind is several other conferences don't even have a conference championship game! It makes sense to say that the "regular season" record was 11-0, but to be fair it should also mention within the same sentence (or at least the same paragraph) that the conference championship game was lost, but it is generally not considered to be a regular season game.
At the same time, I hear about schools (KSU included) saying the have a 9-win season, and those wins include any conference championship games and bowl games. There is definitely room for a lot of confusion here.--Paul McDonald 03:51, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your thoughts. I'll just add the loss in the CCG to the relevant sentence to make it more clear. Kgwo1972 22:47, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rivals[edit]

I think Nebraska should not be listed as a rival. They were a football rival in the late 90's and early 2000's, but they aren't now. They are a rival in volleyball. If you asked any logical Husker fan, I bet they would not say K-State is a rival. Do you agree?Topgun530 (talk) 18:13, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lacking a good source to backup the claim, I think you'd be safe removing it. →Wordbuilder (talk) 19:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Big 12 WikiProject[edit]

I'm trying to gauge the interested in created a Big 12 WikiProject and wondering who would like to be involved. There are already pages for WikiProject Big Ten and WikiProject ACC. A Big 12 project would cover the schools themselves and anything to do with conference sports including: events, rivalries, teams, seasons, championships and lore. There is already quite a bit of activity here on Wikipedia regarding the Big 12, and I think a project could help coordinate and unify our efforts. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Big 12 if you are interested, and add your name to the list. Grey Wanderer (talk) 00:25, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conference championships[edit]

I'm creating this section to permanently set forth the conference championships that KSU has won to preemptively avoid any confusion on the page going forward, since this list is not compiled anywhere else that I've seen.

As of August 2012 the total is sixty-four sixty-five conference championships since joining MVIAA in 1913: Football (1934, 2003); men's basketball (26 total listed on basketball page); women's basketball (10 total listed on basketball page); baseball (1928, 1930, 1933); volleyball (2003); men's outdoor track (1919); men's indoor track (1935, 1974, 1976); men's CC (10 total: 1932, 1934, 1936-39, 1965-66, 1971, 1975); women's outdoor track (2001, 2002); women's indoor track (1976); women's CC (1982, 1992, 1998); wrestling (1931, 1939, 1940). -Kgwo1972 (talk) 20:49, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've added one baseball championship in 1928, in the Missouri Valley, per KSU record books. Correct total is 65 championships. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 20:21, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The updated total as of January 1, 2013 is 66 championships, with one additional football title earned in 2012. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 21:56, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The table below shows the current proper numbers. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 20:06, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
