Obsolete and Irrelevant?

[edit]

Does this article refer to technology, LAN (-only) messaging, which has become obsolete and irrelevant in 2009? patsw (talk) 21:14, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you explain a little bit more which forms of synchronous chat systems you think have become obsolete? - 83.254.210.47 (talk) 14:17, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand your question. What part of LAN (-only) messaging is unclear to you? As of 2009, who is installing or maintaining a LAN (-only) messaging system without an Internet layer?patsw (talk) 00:12, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article and list of LAN messengers shows that more than 4 protocols/applications are actively developed in 2009. Like the theory of evolution does not explain the origin of live, using a communication standard implies no active Internet connection. Borgchat with 138 thousand Softpedia downloads[1] works LAN only, others like Pichat combine LAN communication with synchronous conferencing (XMPP). - 83.254.210.47 (talk) 11:14, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What if it does? Wax cylinders are obsolete and irrelevant, but they still have their own Wikipedia page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.244.80.157 (talk) 22:04, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Chatting via radio antenna ?

[edit]

Can a WLAN-type chat system be created using radio antenna's (via packet radio/DAB)? The idea is a bit similar to Bluechat, except that -like CB radio-, the range would be upto 15-25km. The signals are sent digitally (like packet radio/DAB/internet linking project). 91.182.178.247 (talk) 14:05, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
