Obituaries

[edit]

The one obituary previously ref'd here is for Vivien Alcock and now {{dead}}. These notes cover obituaries for both husband and wife, compiled during my last edit session. (I started to composed Ext links but moved to this location after anticipating their number.)

Leon Garfield
• by John Rowe Townsend, The Independent, 4 June 1996official
• by William Grimes, The New York Times, 9 June 1996
• by Russell Hoban, The Independent, 4 June 1996official
• By: Brennan, Geraldine. Times Educational Supplement. 6/07/96, Issue 4171, p5. 1/9p.
• By: Blishen, Edward. Times Educational Supplement. 6/07/96, Issue 4171, TES2 p6. 1/6p.
• Publishers Weekly. 6/17/1996, Vol. 243 Issue 25, p27. 1/6p.
• Washington Post News Feed. 6/7/96, Vol. 119 Issue 185, pB7.

"Obituary: Vivien Alcock ; Children's Writer and Wife of Leon Garfield" obituary by Nicholas Tucker in The Independent, 22 October 2003 —reprint at Questia.com, opening paragraphs available without subscription
Copy at Google alt.obituaries
Answers cites three "Obituaries and other sources", evidently three obituaries:
• Guardian (London, England), November 12, 2003, p. 29.
• Independent (London, England), October 22, 2003, p. 18.
• Times (London, England), October 23, 2003, p. 38.

Several obituaries are listed here in multiple copies. Most copies are entirely available to me but some are not and availability may depend my seat in a university library. --P64 (talk) 18:05, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Other sources

[edit]

{{Authority control}} in the footer links some library records.

Leon Garfield at eNotes (dozens of "Leon Garfield Critical Essays")

leongarfield.com — I added this one to Extlinks but its status is known to me. Some pages accept visitor contributions. — perhaps published/financed by Johnson & Alcock Ltd (Agent http://leongarfield.com/?page_id=129)? but that agency does not link here from its Authors: Estates: Garfield, Leon http://www.johnsonandalcock.co.uk/content/view/59/39/

Adaptations of Shakespeare

[edit]

[WorldCat: Garfield reports that Garfield's work most widely held in participating libraries is Shakespeare Stories (Gollancz, 1985), a narrative adaptation of 12 plays. Volume II (Gollancz, 1994) covers 7 plays and ranks seventh in libraries. Among other things today, I added Ext links to WorldCat records for first editions of the two books. I also added the two books to Selected works.

In the text we continue to cover Garfield adaptations of Shakespeare only for the animated TV show and resulting Sam Wanamaker Award. --P64 (talk) 20:12, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
