This seems in error - it overlooks that Francis of Assisi resigned the office of Minister General in 1220 and was replaced by Peter of Catania who died the next year in 1221. He was in turn replaced by Elias of Cortona for the remainder of Francis' lifetime. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quintavalle (talk • contribs) 17:41, 10 December 2008

It's an interesting question. It may turn on what actual title the effective head of the order held. And the history of the early days, as I recall, is somewhat obscure in the sources. Charles Matthews (talk) 18:06, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of General Ministers of the Order of Friars Minor → List of Ministers General of the Order of Friars Minor – The title was changed by an editor who reversed the title to General Ministers, claiming that it is an incorrect translation.
