"Islamabad"? Surely "Islam" means "submission", not "peace". RickK 06:33, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

But "salaam" means "peace". Googling suggests that the name of the city may have been selected with the double-meaning in mind. Then again, "submission" and "peace" are close together in meaning and both "Islam" and "salaam" share the "SLM" root... can someone please enlighten me as to the relationship between these two words? Rlandmann 06:42, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Yes, the SLM root. And Wik is deleting everything Pacific. --Kaihsu Tai 06:55, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Pacific Palisades, etc., are obviously named after the ocean, not after peace. Solomon Islands are named after King Solomon. --Wik 06:57, Oct 31, 2003 (UTC)
Whose name means "peaceful". FWIW. Rlandmann 07:07, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)
If I add a section 'places indirectly named after peace', will you delete it? --Kaihsu Tai 07:01, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I might, as I don't see the point of it. --Wik 07:10, Oct 31, 2003 (UTC)
All right. At your mercy. --Kaihsu Tai 07:12, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

What on earth is the point of this? "Solomon" might possibly meant peace in some language or other, but the Solomon Islands were named after King Solomon, not the etymology of the name. This is like saying that the Philippines were named after a horse because Phillip means "lover of horses" in ancient Greek. This whole article is silly. Adam 09:11, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)
