Sources?[edit]

There don't seem to be any references on any of the lists as to where the UN numbers and their associated products information was drawn from. Anyone have a good source for these? 50.71.239.228 (talk) 06:29, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

Why are there no numbers between 0500 and 1001? Is this an omission? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anna L Martin (talkcontribs) 12:21, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I work with Domestic (US) and international Hazardous Materials & Dangerous Goods Regulations on a daily basis and it is my opinion that two things should happen regarding UN Numbers and the Proper shipping names:

1. The portion of the listing that is a proper shipping name should be bold leaving any part of the listing not required in the shipping test as normal text, possibly even in italic (as it is in the US regulations).

2. If one UN number has multiple proper shipping names, they should be separated by a ";" instead of a comma. Commas are used within these proper shipping names and might draw confusion when used as a separator.

These listings my not have been intended to be used as a shipping reference, but it is my opinion that they easily could be so referenced. Albeit unlikely to draw more than a notification, even the smallest spelling mistake using this information could lead to violations of Transport regulations.

I have found one mistake thus far and corrected it:

UN1498 was listed with an incorrect proper shipping name: Sodium Nitrate and potassium nitrate mixture. I corrected UN 1498 to read Sodium nitrate and added UN1499, the correct UN number for Sodium Nitrate and potassium nitrate mixture.

Source materials include 49 CFR Parts 100-185 Oct 1 2008 [Mancomm] & IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations 49th Ed. 2008 & 50thed. 2009.

I am certified in the following Hazardous Material and Dangerous Goods regulations: 49CFR Parts100-185, IATA, TDG and IMO. I am familiar with ADR.

The lists include many descriptions followed with the acronym n.o.s. This presumably refers to "not otherwise specified."

Directory[edit]

Just want to say that Wikipedia is not a WP:DIRECTORY and this whole set of related articles seems excessive...it at least needs to have more context, as in, what do the numbers actually mean, what is their significance to the general public. —JmaJeremyƬalkCont 05:57, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
