Lucas/Luke

[edit]

From what I can tell he was referred to as Lucas during his minor league days but most media outlets refer to him as Luke now:

If you do the google test, there are 350 news hits for "Luke" and 50 for "Lucas" (linking to a news query with quotes doesn't work). I don't think mlb.com is the end-all source for a person's name, especially where there are so many other sources saying different. A normal google web test yields 9600 "Luke" hits and 7100 "Lucas" hits. — X96lee15 (talk) 13:33, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And attending the game today, he was referred to as "Luke". I'm going to move the page back to Luke French (baseball) unless there are any other objections. — X96lee15 (talk) 02:22, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be switched back to Lucas French because the Tigers had him down as Lucas and the Mariners have him down as Lucas. see here. Michael (talk) 06:36, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That may be, but he was always "Luke" during media broadcasts, both on TV and the radio. Hrmm. Mackensen (talk) 11:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is an interesting case -- it's nearly 50-50 on being referred to as Luke v. Lucas. I don't know the right way to go (although I have a lot less interest in the subject than I did a week ago (unless this guy turns out to be John Smoltz)). — X96lee15 (talk) 16:27, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, X96lee15, I'm not sure what last comment was all about and what it had to do with this discussion. Second of all, I was watching the Fantasy Baseball update on ESPNEWS where they talk about which pitcher you should start and which pitcher you shouldn't start, and they refered to him as Luke, but you see that a lot, a players fullname on the roster and then the media calls the player by the nickname or whatever it is, but I still think Lucas French is the correct title for this page. – Michael (talk) 00:37, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The google test shows 98,000 results for "Lucas" and 243,000 for "Luke". I'm thinking he's more commonly referred to as "Luke" and that should be the name of the article. And my comment above can be summed up as: Luke French : John Smoltz :: Jarrod Washburn : Doyle Alexander. — X96lee15 (talk) 02:44, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but if you think the page should be moved, I'd prefer starting an RM discussion. – Michael (talk) 23:57, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
