Major inaccuracies

The SE/30 name refers to the Motorola 68030 CPU. It is not a IIx in a compact mac. The IIx has a 68020 CPU. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.187.146.235 (talk) 05:08, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The IIx in fact has a '030, as indicated by the x in the model name. The II and LC were the only Macs with '020 CPU

With some software hacks, it also becomes possible to run OS 8.0 or OS 8.1 (whereas the SE/30 normally can only run up to System 7.5.5. However, it has been confirmed that a stock SE/30 can also boot off a System 7.6 boot disk).

This seems contradictory to me. Can it normally run up to 7.5.5, or up to 7.6? Are there any drawbacks to running 7.6 on an SE/30? Or is 7.5.5 just Apple's officially recommended maximum? 134.117.141.111 22:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The SE/30 can go all the way up to 7.6.1, but cannot run 8.0 with the 68030 as Mac OS 8 requires a 32-bit processor. The 68040 obviously is, which will enable the SE/30 to use 8.0 or 8.1 on it. 8.5 or higher requires a PowerPC processor. Black Tempest Mac SE/30

Lawrence Livermore Mac SE/40

My wife's first Mac was a Mac SE/40 that she bought at a surplus auction at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. These were said to be custom made Mac SE/30s with the 68030s replaced with a 68040s by Apple. Leeeoooooo (talk) 20:14, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The citation for the codename from Apple Confidential 2.0 does indeed confirm the internal codename for the SE/30, but makes no mention of the -x suffix. At the time, the IIx was the only Macintosh out that had the 030 CPU, which does suggest a precedent, but is circumstantial evidence at best, given that any other Macs released with the -x suffix came after the SE/30's release. 205.215.217.82 (talk) 18:13, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
