Use of standard units

[edit]

There are several places in the article where non-standard units are used. For example, the bare symbol 'μ' is used for microns (i.e., micrometers), where SI 'μm' is correct. A notation 'γ' (identified as "10-5 gauss") is used, rather than the SI nanotesla (nT). The energy unit "Kev" should be written "keV" (for "kilo-electron volt").

As I have not contributed to Wikipedia before, I don't feel comfortable editing the article text directly, without some feedback from the original author or editorial group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kelseymh (talkcontribs) 05:49, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Go where you have not been before. Be WP:Bold. Everyone has to start somewhere. Robvanvee (talk) 15:12, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Results - Scientific Observations

[edit]

The first paragraph of this section regarding scientific observations states that,『The scans with the 19 mm band revealed peak temperatures of 490°K ± 11°C on the dark side, 595°K ± 12°C near the terminator, and 511°K ± 14°C on the light side.』 However, we know today that the mean surface temperature on Venus is 464°C. Therefore, the temperatures being reported in the article are incorrect and need to be revised to degrees Celsius and not degrees Kelvin. - C. Remley, August 27, 2013.

Oops; for some reason I want to associate all the Mariner flights with Mars, though some went to Venus. Mea culpa. JustinTime55 (talk) 15:32, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Got it to B class!

[edit]

Using a lot of verbiage I developed for Mariner 1, this article is now a B class. Eventually, I will get it to GA and maybe even FA, which it deserves. But not today... --Neopeius (talk) 03:23, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Smithsonian has some good CC0 photos of the engineering model
