Importance[edit]

I've rated the Mariner program article as "Mid" importance. The program did generate a number of impressive "firsts", and founded a line of other important interplanetary probe programs. Sdsds 20:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cost[edit]

The Mariner 2 article reports: "Total research, development, launch, and support costs for the Mariner series of spacecraft (Mariners 1 through 10) was approximately $554 million." I'm not sure whether this is true or not, but if it belongs in an article, it would be this one and not the Mariner 2 article. Van der Hoorn (talk) 14:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

READ ME[edit]

During the probes journey to Venus, the craft for the first time measures the solar wind, a constant stream of particles flowing outward from the sun. It also measures interplanetary dust, which turns out to be scarce than predicted. In addition, mariner 2 detects high-energy charged particles coming from the sun, including several solar flares, as well as cosmic rays from outside the solar system. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.220.181.55 (talk) 07:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC) lakweisha mccalister —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.139.160.4 (talk) 20:30, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References and Reference Section[edit]

I've noticed little referencing in this article as well as most of the other Mariner specific articles. I love pouring through NASA's historical archives and don't mind putting in some citations, but to make editing easier for me and certainly everyone else, I'd like to move the inline citations down to a list within the Reference section. Anyone have any objections? Ken Tholke 18:41, 29 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kentholke (talkcontribs)

Improved![edit]

Hello, @Tisnec:!

Sorry to have taken so long. I have reviewed your article. It's a definite improvement on the last major revision, and I've given it a "C". It's not quite to B class yet. Things to improve:

Good job, and keep going! :) --Neopeius (talk) 14:12, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thank you. I appreciate you taking the time, and I'll keep these points in mind as I edit in the future. Tisnec (talk) 17:46, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Today dollars or back then dollars?[edit]

> The total cost of the Mariner program was approximately $554 million.

The number seems too low. Maybe we could clarify if the 500 million USD is 1970s USD or 2020s USD? BrawlyTheContributor (talk) 15:01, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's ambiguous in the page that number is sourced from [1]: "Total research, development, launch, and support costs for the Mariner series of spacecraft (Mariners 1 through 10) was approximately $554 million." Since there's no qualifier, I assume those were the real numbers, unadjusted for inflation over either the life of the program or in the decades since, but that's speculative on my part.
