Move[edit]

I have proposed that all Mercury missions are re-named. This will affect this page. So they can be discussed together on one page, I've set up a subpage of my user talk page for discussion of the moves. --GW_Simulations|User Page | Talk | Contribs | E-mail 20:41, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Drama?[edit]

The page on astronaut Cooper makes his reentry sound a lot more dramatic: "Cooper fell back on his understanding of star patterns, took manual control of the tiny capsule and successfully estimated the correct pitch for re-entry into the atmosphere. Some precision was needed in the calculation since if the capsule came in too deep g-forces would be too large and if its trajectory was too shallow it would absorb too much heat and burn up. Cooper drew lines on the capsule window to help him check his orientation before firing the re-entry rockets. "So I used my wrist watch for time," he later recalled, "my eyeballs out the window for attitude. Then I fired my retrorockets at the right time and landed right by the carrier."

Perhaps this article should be fleshed out to incorporate that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.100.197.144 (talk) 21:56, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does the article adequately describe the extent of Mercury 9's system failures?[edit]

"The massive breakdown of nearly all systems aboard Mercury 9" is how http://www.astronautix.com/articles/youelled.htm describes the mission. I don't get that sense from the Wikipedia article.
