At this point this has become an annual problem, why do some editors (old and new) fail to understand or follow the set guidelines by WP:COMMONNAME? It has been said time and time again not to change it because that's what the organization uses but still editors put it that way for some reason. I already put a reminder just in case. In relation to this, do we think the footnotes indicating what name they are competing as necessary? Because some countries that use a different sash like USA don't have this yet some like DR Congo and Guinea do. Personally I think its a bit irrelevant, not to mention Wikipedia is not a repository for what the official information of the pageant is. With how this is going right now, we might end up having to put these in every year just because yet again a pageant fan pushes to use what the MUO uses; and that in itself is mundane and tedious with how repetitive it is. Asking for some answers from fellow editors that way we can establish a proper consensus with this. @Allyriana000, @LikeRealTimes @SciencefishMilesq (talk) 18:10, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This problem also affects the Binibining Pilipinas articles to be honest. However, in the case of Miss Universe, I personally think if push comes to shove, we have to do a footnote for every country that will be affected by WP:COMMONNAME. As much as we try to warn these users about changing the country's names to fit the candidates' sashes, someone would still do it. Allyriana000 (talk) 02:41, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Allyriana000 and just right now we had another incident of a user pushing the said names despite the footnotes. I don't want to go and reprimand every user that does as it may result in hounding the users, but at the same time the encyclopedic quality of the article is heavily compromised. I do suggest we make a general footnote instead? As adding too may footnotes may make it look very clunky in return. Milesq (talk) 07:04, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No footnotes needed. To me it's obvious who they are representing - you click the link it takes you to the appropriate pageant. Put a comment at the top of the table to follow wikipedia MOS, not the pageant conventions. Sciencefish (talk) 07:46, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Moldova is now have a representative candidate post on Instagram & TikTok the name is Sabrina Skk, she is the first ever Miss Universe Moldova 2024🇲🇩 180.195.116.113 (talk) 11:29, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Until Miss Universe or the Miss Universe Moldova Organization has released their national director/candidate, no Moldovan candidate will be added. We must have reliable references first. Allyriana000 (talk) 11:37, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Should a "notes" section be added to the contestant section for Miss Universe 2024? Past national titles of major pageants could be listed here, as well as other noteworthy contributions. Miss Teen USA 2024 and Miss USA 2024 have this so wondering if uniformity should be kept or do we think it's not a big deal? Molliward99 (talk) 17:01, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, this is trivial information and I don't think any pageant article should have this. The Selection of Participants and Debuts, returns, and withdrawals sections were added years ago to replace a Notes section because writing this in prose was more encyclopedic than a list of random facts. { [ ( jjj1238 ) ] }17:11, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone add Pakistan, Serbia & Bahrain in the upcoming national pageants to July 2024? Their organization announced that their finals will be in July 2024 but they still don't have a certain date. Catia108 (talk) 09:33, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why did someone remove uruguay from upcoming national pageants? Their pageant is on 31 August. They have already announced their group of contestants as well.. Catia108 (talk) 17:14, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your source is from MissUUpdates on Instagram, a pageant blog. Wikipedia:WikiProject Beauty Pageants/Sources clearly states that social media sites like Instagram are only permitted if it comes from a primary source (and even then it is not usually recommended) and defintely not allowed to cite from pageant blogs like MissUUpdates, even if that information is correct. This is just ensuring the verifiability of the content being factual, encyclopedic, and follows notability guidelines. Milesq (talk) 17:28, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
