Merger proposal[edit]

While the Villa Montalvo Arboretum is a very nice place, there's really no sufficiently distinct notability associated with it, or any other reasonable basis for its constituting a separate article, rather than merely being a section of Villa Montalvo. KevinOKeeffe (talk) 09:07, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No one cares; I'm just going to go for it. Its a very sound proposal, I can assure you. KevinOKeeffe (talk) 06:39, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Montalvo Arts Center[edit]

Can this page be renamed to "Montalvo Arts Center" (the correct current name of the organization and location) with "Villa Montalvo" as a possible subsection? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.65.90.34 (talkcontribs)

If that's the current correct name, I have no objection. Let's wait and see what other editors say. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 09:43, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with the name change, except that I do not see Villa Montalvo as a subsection, but as a redirect. I thought perhaps that Montalvo Arts Center was the name of the entire location, while Villa Montalvo the name for just the building, but that doesn't seem the case, according to the article. --S Philbrick(Talk) 14:58, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The historic estate is now called Montalvo Arts Center. How do you usually deal with a place that changes its name? A new article would have exactly the same information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.65.90.34 (talk) 00:51, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Can anyone else chime in here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.65.90.34 (talk) 23:38, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declining request for lack of consensus. Suggest you either (edit request) expand the Arts Center section and created a redirect for Montalvo Arts Center. – S. Rich (talk) 17:38, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for leaving the name. In the early seventies I lived in Cupertino and still remember "Villa Montalvo" as one of the most beautiful places in the Bay Aerea. I don’t associate it with art, but remember it for its serene architectural and garden beauty, its romantic name (better even than Boboli), the hikes in the hills, people seated on the grass, California … . I still long for it, far away in Europe. — Fritz Jörn (talk) 15:09, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edit requested on July 6, 2016[edit]

The correct name of this place is Montalvo Arts Center. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.93.154.254 (talk) 23:22, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are you asking for the page to be moved to that title? Since a couple of users objected to this renaming in the past, you should open a requested move discussion on this talk page. Follow the protocol explained at the requested moves policy page. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 17:45, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 12 August 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved. This was a tough decision by a "rough" consensus. While the pageview stats still point to the "Villa Montalvo" title as most viewed, when that is typed into a search engine the Montalvo Arts Center (or infrequently the Villa Montalvo Arts Center) is the common result. So I must go with the two support rationales over that of the single (yet compelling) oppose rationale. The article will need some work, and I'll start on that soon after I do the other required cleanup. You can help if you like. (non-admin closure)  Paine  u/c 16:03, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Villa MontalvoMontalvo Arts Center – The name of the property is Montalvo Arts Center. Villa Montalvo is a historic building located on the site, but this article references the entire estate. The estate's website at http://montalvoarts.org is titled Montalvo Arts Center (and http://www.villamontalvo.org redirects here), and it lists "historic Villa Montalvo" as a venue, describing the building itself ( http://montalvoarts.org/venue/2/ ). In "The mansion and grounds" section on the current article, the "historic Villa Montalvo" is also described as a building located on the property, not the property as a whole. While some members of the community often refer to the entire property as Villa Montalvo, this is not actually correct. The title should be Montalvo Arts Center, with a section titled Villa Montalvo, and not the other way around. 68.65.90.34 (talk) 01:12, 12 August 2016 (UTC) --Relisting. Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with * '''Support''' or * '''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
But the estate is not called Villa Montalvo; it is called Montalvo Arts Center. See here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, etc.
Then why is the adjacent park called "Villa Montalvo County Park"--Prisencolin (talk) 02:11, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Because the park is named after Villa Montalvo, the historic building on the arts center property.
It's the other way around.
Striking vote for now. I happened to be here a few months back, and the name did strike me as somewhat confusing.--Prisencolin (talk) 20:03, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
