The image Image:Moyaaid.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --23:23, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tidy

[edit]

The page should be tidied up. There are sources and information everywhere in odd sections. Is there any way the sections could be rethought?--Theosony (talk) 21:19, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assemblies of God

[edit]

I added that Moya was a member of Assemblies of God, but am unsure if she is still practicing within that particular church? Could anyone clarify?--Theosony (talk) 18:28, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Voice type

[edit]

To me, she sounds absolutely not like alto - more like lyric soprano because of little vibrato und crystaltone. The full dark tone is sign for lyric and absolutely NOT for alto. I`ve found sources for soprano as voicetype: Maire (Pronounced Moya) Brennan is the angelic soprano lead singer-harpist of the Irish folk band Clannad. http://www.rootsworld.com/interview/brennan.html I´ve changed the Voicetype into soprano

I think I'm the one who wrote alto, simply guessing. I'd say she is a soprano thinking about it, but her voice, as she has gotten older has changed to mezzo-soprano, her range has grown greatly, especially with high notes. She also has a lot of vibrato in there, it adds I suppose to her trademark recording work.--Theosony (talk) 11:27, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discography

[edit]

I've changed the title of the "Compilations" section to "Compilations and Collaborations" which seems more accurate, and added a reference to her spine-chilling duet with Robert Plant on the latter's "Fate of Nations" album. The formatting of this section could do with some work generally. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.177.191.149 (talk) 16:45, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone add the collaboration with Michael Kamen's soundtrack to Band of Brothers? Maire Brennan sings with Zoe Kamen on the last track (20) of the album soundtrack: 'Band of Brothers Requiem'.

James C. Laver (talk) 16:16, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm creating a new discography page at the minute, sorry for the delay! (: Filastin (talk) 16:51, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of name

[edit]

It would be nice to explain how to pronounce her name, especially for non-Irish speakers. -- Beland (talk) 19:19, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not a great image

[edit]

But an editor claims there's no FUR on the page when I see one. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:58, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A FUR is require for each article in which it is to be included (WP:NFCC). In fact, no rationale is offered for its inclusion in any article. Nor does any such plausible rationale appear to exist, because, to quote the image's license tag, there is no "for critical commentary and discussion of the film and its contents", the limited purpose for which a screenshot could be included. -- Rrburke (talk) 01:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A Rationale of Fair Use is present. In fact you can see that. Thanks for discussing though. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:46, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it appears the uploader was not familiar with Wikipedia's policy relating to the use of non-free content or with the doctrine of fair use more broadly and has mistakenly offered what he thinks is a fair use rationale when it's actually not one. A fair use rationale sets out in detail the rationale for the file's use (as the name suggests) for each article in which it appears. A fair use rationale is a justification for the use of the file in an article, not a justification for uploading it to Wikipedia -- which is what the uploader appears to have believed was required. A fair use rationale would explain why the use of the file in this article (and separately for each article in which it appears) justifies an exception to copyright protection. The circumstances meriting such exceptions are quite limited. Because we would like a picture of Moya Brennan for this article is not one. Without such a justification, an editor adding such an image to an article risks copyright violation.
The circumstances that merit such exceptions are set out both in Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria and Wikipedia:Non-free content. If you can see in these documents a rationale I've missed that would justify this image's use in Moya Brennan, please add a {{Non-free use rationale}} template tag to the file description. For my part, I don't believe there is a valid rationale to be found: in general, where the video or film itself is not the subject of commentary in an article, a fair-use exception to copyright protection for a screenshot is not justified.
-- Rrburke (talk) 02:53, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The image was uploaded 2007-Oct-25. The Fair use rationale template was not in active use at that time and so you can't expect that the uploader would know to use it. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:09, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Although the template may not have existed, the requirement to justify a copyrighted media file's use in each instance the file is included in an article always has. Fair use is not simply a back door we can use to smuggle in material that is inconveniently copyrighted; it is a limited set of exceptions to copyright protection permitting use for certain limited purposes only. In the case of a screenshot from a movie or video, the article ought to contain substantial critical commentary on the film or video itself (not merely the event depicted) to justify the claim of fair use. For example, an argument could plausibly be made for including a screenshot from the movie Woodstock in the article on the film, but probably not in the article on the concert, because in the former, the film is the main subject of the article and film as such is a subject of substantial critical commentary, whereas in the latter neither is the case.
This is why the Non-free film screenshot copyright tag specifies "for critical commentary and discussion of the film and its contents". In the case of File:Moyaaid.jpg, the film and its contents were not discussed at all (or even mentioned), not in Moya Brennan nor in any article in which this image appeared, so there is no plausible basis for a claim of fair use. -- Rrburke (talk) 14:24, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't take this the wrong way, but you keep saying the same thing so I'm going to ignore you and listen to what other editors have to say. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:53, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nor you either, naturally, but the reason I keep saying more or less the same thing is I'm trying (and evidently failing) to find a way to get this relatively simple point to find home. -- Rrburke (talk) 21:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tidyup

[edit]

Hi

I started to do a little tidying up, but there is too much to do for the time I have today.

The main issue for me is continuity, for example the "Personal life" section has "Autobiography" as a subsection. It does not need a subsection of its own as it is only a few words, the rest being noting to do with her autobiography (as it presently reads).

Lots of puffery/peacocking also! Chaosdruid (talk) 11:36, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding sources for the claim

[edit]

I am adding a source for the claim.-Umair Aj (talk) 17:53, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the source from discogs.com. It does not meet WP:RS for this sort of claim. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:33, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
