Page naming[edit]

The wiki naming convention specifies english language translations, so this should be Franz Josef Strauss International Airport, were it not for the fact that it also seems, according to its website, to call itself Munich International Airport. So perhaps the Franz Josef Strauss bit should in any event be a redirect?

No, the airport has no "international" in its name. I can't understand why some people want to put an "international" into the name of airports. It calls itself simply『Flughafen München』or in english "Munich airport". No "international", and when uses the "Search" facility of the airports web site to find the name of the rightwing politician "Franz-Josef Strauß", the only answer is "Your search did not match any documents." I will rename the article accordingly as "Munich Airport" in the next two days.--L.Willms 03:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved the page, per the request at WP:RM. Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns. -GTBacchus(talk) 00:56, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Transportation out of the airport[edit]

Freising can be reached by bus, though I can't remember the number right now. More importantly, to go by train north(east)wards from the airport it is better to go to Freising and take the train from there as you save some 60 minutes travel-tme. Oh, and somewhere it should be mentioned that the ticket-machines (for collective transport including train outside Munich) are rather hard to use and that it pays to buy from the people in the ticket-desk just by the ticket-machines. And daycard ("tageskarte") rules.

List of airlines?[edit]

I would heartily recommend removing the list of airlines served at each terminal. These lists are highly likely to change in the future, and don't really have any encyclopedic value. The wiki is not a flight boarding service, this information is easy to look up on the Munich Airport website. Maury 21:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest you bring the matter up to the relevant project, namely WP:AVIATION. I believe that they have encyclopedic content, and there are people who watch over these pages so as to preserve its accuracy. Still, if you disagree, by all means, start a discussion in the talk page of that project. Cheers. /ɪlεktʃɹɪk bluː/ 21:23, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive my confusion, but why would I post to a project page about a particular page? Does the project page suggest airports need to have these lists? Maury 21:29, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation covers the maintenance of articles relating to aviation, airlines, etc, including Munich International Airport. If you object to this article's having a list of airlines, then in extension, you are also objecting to the existence of the lists in other airport articles as well. If you start a discussion on this article's talk page only, I am sure that other editors that watch this site and other airport sites will refer you to the relevant wikiproject discussion as well. I'm just trying to help by directing you to the proper forum. Cheers. /ɪlεktʃɹɪk bluː/ 21:47, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, the lists of airlines, even with huge lists of destinations, ruin every Wikipedia article having them. E.g. the Frankfurt airport article consists of hardly anything else but this list, which belongs into a travel agency, but not an encyclopedia. The information about the airport is practically nil. The airline lists have to get out of all of them. --L.Willms 04:02, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3rd Runway[edit]

I have removed the following clause

"It would also significantly reduce the heavy delays in the winter, which sometimes occur during heavy snowfall."

I fail to see how a third runway would reduce delays. Surely with another runway, that would mean more scheduled flights thus, when the weather gets bad, even MORE cancellations. WilliamH 23:19, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Missing info[edit]

There is no information about the new planned terminal, the planned Transrapid track and no info about the renovation of Terminal 1. WHY!?

Naming[edit]

I strongly suggest to rename the article towards『Flughafen München-Franz Josef Strauß』because otherwise there are two airports with the same name (the old one in Riem). This Article "Munich Airport" needs to become a Disamb. --77.4.59.56 (talk) 16:29, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Destination Map[edit]

Thailand is mentioned in the Text but missing in the SVG. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.15.12.32 (talk) 14:24, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi also Syria which is a suspended destination by all of Europe is in the map and Tehran which is being resumed by Lufthansa this July is not in the destinations map.46.33.136.216 (talk) 11:43, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually we do not include destination maps on airport pages by project consensus, so it has been removed. Thanks. SempreVolando (talk) 11:48, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IATA Code[edit]

Why is the IATA code MUC and not MUN? José Tadeo Monagas International Airport has MUN, but it's much newer. Munich-Riem Airport, the current airport's predecessor, was also MUC. It's neither the first three letters of the city nor an abbreviation of either airport name. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 20:39, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
