"It was founded as Nueva Australia in 1893 by a handful of families" "When Juan Kennedy, her uncle, wrote to Australia to rename the town Nueva Canberra, the letter was never answered – so they went for London instead.
Hello there. I'm feeling too lazy to do it at present but maybe something could be added to the page about the new book (well 2012) by Ben Stubbs, Ticket to Paradise, about New Australia. Roosters93 (talk) 13:08, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look on google earth, going off the maps from http://setis.library.usyd.edu.au/rare/newoz/ issue 7 number 1. It seems the location of the main settlement (matching with the maps geography, and about 15km NE of 'Villarica, paraguay') is around 25°36'58.41"S 56°19'37.95"W. This isnt what is said on the main page (150km SE of asuncion), but about 82.5miles E of asuncion. Maybe Cosme is the settlement further south? I dont know. It seems from http://web.maths.unsw.edu.au/~brianj/Gabalah/history.html that it still exists as a farming village.
Anyone more sure of this than I am? Im a bit hesitant to update the main page without sureness.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Miscreant (talk • contribs)
Thanks, It was me that put that distance from Asuncion and I believe that you're correct. My distance was based on a rough look at the map/s without too much science (being slack!) and was done before I realised that Cosme was 62 km further south than N/Aust. I've removed the distance entirely from the map caption to avoid any further confusion. I suggest that the coords (and if possible, exact distances) would be a good addition to the article. -- I@n01:34, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
