Libel suit, Word War vs. DOJ Chief[edit]

This war between a prelate and infamous DOJ Chief: On April, 2008, Raul M. Gonzalez ordered the filing of a libel case against Cruz on his disclosure of the presence of 19 usherettes of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. at the birthday party of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo in 2004. Cruz labeled them as GROs or guest relations officers. Gonzalez also supported the plan of pro-administration congressmen from Southern Luzon, to file complaint before the Vatican / Pope Benedict XVI for his “conduct unbecoming a bishop.”[1] --Florentino floro (talk) 09:56, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This Catholicism-related biographical article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. So, I added this controversy section, to expand this. NOTABLE, since this is the first time in Philippine history where an Archbishop had been charged with criminal case, libel in this case. No other case had been filed since 1901. Manila RTC, Branch 52 Judge Antonio Rosales on MAY 14, 2008, issued the warrantofarrest and granted the P10,000 bail motion filed by Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz. Libel cases were filed against him after he accused the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) of using female staff to act like "guest relations officers (GROs)" during the 2004 birthday celebration of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo.mb.com.ph, Archbishop Cruz ordered arrested by Manila courtgmanews.tv, Archbishop Cruz to post bail for libel case on Wednesday, 05/14/2008--Florentino floro (talk) 08:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: He just posted bail and the arraignment was set on June 17.gmanews.tv, Bishop posts bail; court sets arraignment on June 17--Florentino floro (talk) 08:24, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
