Untitled[edit]

Oxford has some beautiful buildings -- any chance someone living there could put some photos up; even one of Rowan Oak would be nice.

Johnny Marr's Residence[edit]

I know that Modest Mouse recorded their latest album in Oxford with Johnny Marr, but is there any evidence that Marr actually resides there? I'm not saying it's false; it's just that I haven't heard that anywhere before, and I actually do live in Oxford.

RevTarthpeigust 17:43, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blake Buck before William Faulkner? For real?

Grocery Store with "World-Wide" Fame?[edit]

Um.... can this be substantiated? Does this really belong here even if it can be substantiated?

John Grisham's house and Trivia question[edit]

I can't verify this by a source, but John Grisham and his family have not lived in Oxford for more than 5 years now. Also, I have a tough time with what exactly counts as "trivia" here. Could someone point out something in the article that one might consider "trivia"? I thought at first maybe the mention of all the artists & authors that live there, but no, that's relevant to the town's status as a cultural center. 68.56.121.105 01:19, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Grisham and his family maintain two primary residences: one in Charlottesville, Virginia, and one in Oxford on Highway 6 South just outside town. Mr. Grisham and his family spend most of their summers and the holidays in Oxford, since both his parents and his wife's parents live in Desoto County nearby. Mr. Grisham's son Ty is currently in his first year of law school at Ole Miss, which is another reason Mr. Grisham and his wife will probably spend more time in Mississippi in the future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.144.216.201 (talk) 04:16, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

andrew mullins?[edit]

Who's andrew mullins, and why is he mentioned under the Education section? Is that vandalism? Jbrnd (talk) 23:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Mullins is the associate chancellor for The University of Mississippi. I think that qualifies him to be listed under education. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.74.112.227 (talk) 13:38, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

James Meredith Degree.[edit]

The article currently states that James Meredith graduated with a degree in history. the James Meredith page says political science. 192.211.30.13 (talk) 03:50, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That text is gone here now. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 23:23, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Meredith Application Rejected "Without Comment"?[edit]

The article states that James Meredith's application was rejected "without comment." How can an application be rejected "without comment"? Wouldn't they at least have to send it back to him, with a note stating "your application is rejected"? Did the application require him to disclose his race? We need more information.John Paul Parks (talk) 02:10, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There were indeed various pretexts. The text has changed. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 23:20, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Citations about Ole Miss riots[edit]

Why are no sources cited about the 1962 riots at the University of Mississippi? There isn't a single source cited in the two paragraphs about the Civil Rights movement. Claims that public officials purposely neglecting their duties, i.e. "The Mississippi Highway Patrol [...] stood by passively while the riots were taking place", however accurate, should be backed up by proper citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zdespart (talkcontribs) 22:03, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are citations now. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 23:20, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

first paragraph[edit]

is sloppily written —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.101.71.200 (talk) 01:35, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Way too much on the riots of 1962 and James Meredith. While Ole Miss is in Oxford, this discussion is on the University of Mississippi page, and it is written much better. A rewrite is in order as to the History of Oxford, MS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.91.152.227 (talk) 18:44, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're quite right! I've made a start, but the Meredith material is far too copious for this article, and much more needs to be added on the history of Oxford itself. Finn Froding (talk) 14:12, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
