day time host changes

[edit]

It's true that Pat Sajak still hosts Wheel of Fortune, but when the daytime version existed, in 1989 (I believe it was early that year), he was replaced in the daytime version only by Rolf Bernirschke (I may have misspelled the last name). Could you update it please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.200.116.197 (talk) 19:55, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Rolf replaced Sajak. Producer Mev Griffin's first choice of Jimmy Connors but NBC snatched him up for the sports department. (according to E!: True Hollywood Story-Wheel of Fortune.) Dwp49423 18:48, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

April 1 episode

[edit]

This was an April 1st episode, let's remember. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmbjspd (talkcontribs) 23:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sajak or Sajdak

[edit]

Anyone know what the reasoning is with the alternate speling Sajdak? Just saw it as part of "E! True Hollywood Story" on "Wheel of Fortune". Typo or legitimate birthname and the D was omitted for some reason (without a source, my guess is for ease of pronounication?) Dwp49423 18:48, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've read several places that his birth name is "Sajdak." I don't know whether he's legally changed it to "Sajak," or whether the better-known spelling is just a stage name. JTRH 15:36, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found a TV Guide source that includes his birth name, and will include the reference in the main article. --Adavidb 00:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that reference is already included in the Infobox – so why the renewed edit controversy? I added another source reference to the article text. —Adavidb 00:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pat's birthname was indeed spelled "Sajdak"; he legally changed the spelling to match his stage name after he became successful. This is mentioned in various cites already cited in this article. Arxiloxos (talk) 06:37, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I was watching reruns of Super Password, and on an All-Star Special, he was actually playing it.

Ponytail

[edit]

Since Wikipedia is not to include unverifiable content (see Attribution), I've removed the paragraph about "unsubstantiated" rumors that Sajak has a hidden ponytail. --Adavidb 10:28, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

weasel words

[edit]

"Some people have suggested that Sajak's politcal commentary lacks credibility because he is a game show host."

I removed this crap because it's weasel words, pure and simple.

Baldness

[edit]

I beg your pardon but I'm italian and Wheel of Fortune is hosted here by Mike Bongiorno... but about baldness? Bongiorno too was always doubt do be bald --Watcheach (talk) 09:56, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need to mention his religious belief of Protestant?

[edit]

I don't think so. Hard to believe he still has black hair at the age of 60. --4.85.129.14 03:29, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's brown (probably dyed). 67.76.100.26 23:42, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Griffin claim

[edit]

"However, Fred Silverman, then head of NBC daytime programming, rejected his hiring, claiming he was "too local", and Merv responded by imposing a moratorium on new tapings until Sajak was hired." Merv's autobiography claims this, but given Woolery left in December of that year, and I'm pretty sure Silverman was gone from NBC before that, I have my doubts. Calliaume (talk) 19:19, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Our Silverman article has Fred leaving NBC in 1981 so the timing is very close. We can place this comment as a statement from Griffin rather than as a generic claim. (and the "Merv" should be changed to "Griffin" anyway per MOS) -- The Red Pen of Doom 19:56, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Image

[edit]

The current lead image is from 2006, I think Wikipedia could use a new one, any thoughts? --Coingeek (talk) 20:33, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Top importance???

[edit]

LoL, Why is this guy rated 'top importance' for California, Illinois and Chicgo articles? 1812ahill (talk) 20:42, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just reassessed down to Mid for Illinois and CaliforniaChicago, both of which still seem too high to me for those projects, and to High for Chicago, because that class will trigger an assessment by the project, according to their page. He does seem like a high or top for Game Shows, but that doesn't apply to other projects as well.--Hjal (talk) 20:09, 27 September 2010 (UTC) [Oops. Mid for California, not Chicago.--Hjal (talk) 04:27, 28 September 2010 (UTC)][reply]
I agree that this should not be a "top importance" California article. The only other bios so rated are Ronald Reagan, John Muir and Juniperro Serra. Sajak should be downrated and other key California historical figures uprated. Thanks for noticing, 1812ahill. Cullen328 (talk) 20:33, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for making the change. Cullen328 (talk) 20:36, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wheel of Fortune's bias towards short contestants

[edit]

Wheel of Fortune only selects male contestants who are shorter than average, and taller height automatically disqualifies potential contestants. My wonder is whether this preference comes from the network or from Pat himself, who is, at best, only 5'10". Wheel of Fortune only picks short contestants.

(I was disqualified at a contestant try-out due to my height, and I'm only slightly tall at exactly 6'.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.157.20.151 (talk) 23:13, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Need mention of Climate change skepticism or delete category

[edit]

While working on Category:Climate change skeptics, I noticed that this article has been added to that category, yet there is no mention in the prose of this article that this article's subject is considered a climate change skeptic (complete with reliable sources). A quick online check showed that reliable sources do exist showing this to be the case. Please add this to the prose to this article or delete the category from this article. Prhartcom (talk) 21:51, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I added a sourced mention of Sajak's climate change skepticism. —ADavidB 13:45, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BLP noticeboard

[edit]

Section = 109 BLP articles labelled "Climate Change Deniers" all at once. This article was placed in a "climate change deniers" category. After discussion on WP:BLPN and WP:CFD the category was deleted. Peter Gulutzan (talk) 17:19, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Longest running game show host?

[edit]

I thought Alex Trebek was the longest running host at 37 years on Jeopardy??? Trainutt (talk) 15:11, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem the two were days (less than a year) apart in their hosting longevity. As of Trebek's death, I understand Sajak had the most time hosting a show, however. Do you have a reliable source identifying Trebek as having the record? —ADavidB 18:00, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
