Changes I made[edit]

changes based on my personal Stookey collection (liner notes of albums) and http://www.noelpaulstookey.com/tl-2000.html --Jshuflin 13:02, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Noel or Paul?[edit]

Tuff row to hoe:
Paul (Stookey) was a giant of the folk revolution as part of Peter, Paul and Mary. Now the rev'n and the band have come and gone (into the intermittant nostalgia concerts than in the late 1970), and he's Not Dead Yet (going on 71, or let me give him his due -- since 71 isn't "old": 70.7 going on 95) ... so He Wants a New Identity; ok, you just go back to your real name, and you've reinvented yourself by murdering your earlier self, and you can have a second career that's more important than your first.
Uh, no. He is still notable as "Paul of PPM", and he's got a long way to go for the new (and no doubt worthwhile and laudable) career (that he has built on the foundation of his career as "Paul Stookey", BTW) to eclipse his main significance. No sign of that having been accomplished yet (except in the sense that for the person living it, their only important life should be their current one), and the presumed Noel Stookey fan who titled the article did so without explanation. I'm moving it to the name that made him notable and mainly keeps it notable, without discussion but with this explanation, and it can always be moved back if and when the discussion becomes more persuasive than the explanation.

As far as I can recall, he has always been Noel Stookey except in the context of the group. In interviews, Travers and Yarrow seemed to frequently refer to him as Noel. For most of the life of PP&M he didn't use Noel in public generally, but that was simply a branding element based on the alliteration of the names and perhaps a "trio of saints" sound. I think that accuracy and respect call for using "Noel Paul Stookey" as the main entry, with a referral from Paul Stookey in recognition of the greater numbers that know that name. Quotes[edit]

As Wikiquote doesn't have quotes for any of the PP&M members, and I don't have sources suitable for Wikiquote's current standards for citations, I think it would be appropriate to have a link to an outside page. However, as the best page I know of happens to be on my own quotation site, I'm not about to put the link in myself. (I've gotten in trouble for that before!) If other agree, I would encourage someone to add the following link to the External Links section:
