I came across this via peace symbol. The topic appears to be of relatively limited notability, most sources are press reports from the original 2013 event. Google news gives me a grand total of 17 hits. It may be arguable to section-merge this into the Sue DiCicco page. --dab (𒁳) 09:00, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Three boys with peace cranes in front of the Eiffel tower" image[edit]

The nature of this photograph isn't clear. It dates to April 2013, while the first instance of "Peace Crane Project" was timed for September 2013. The image may either be unrelated to the event, or it may be promotional material created *by* the organizers of the project as an advertisement -- if the latter is the case, the image should be so identified in order to avoid the implication that this shows a "spontaneous" instance of children participating in the project (as it happened, apparently, while visiting the Eiffel Tower?) It seems likely to me, in the absence of any further information, that it was not in fact the boys who are visiting the Eiffel tower, but rather the photographer, who might then have paid three random boys loitering nearby to pose with the cranes while flasihg the "V" sign (the boys do not appear to belong to the generation to which use of the 'V' for peace was familiar, if anything, the gesture today tends to signify 'victory').

I have replaced the image with an obviously genuine image of a New Zealand activist for now. My aim is simply avoiding, as far as possible, Wikipedia displaying tailored promotional imagery without proper identification as such. If we can attribute this image as "promotional image published by the Peace Crane Project, April 2013", it would obviously be on topic. --dab (𒁳) 09:11, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
