Background & aftermath

[edit]

Methinks we need a section on the background of theis raid. Agriprocessors had a long history of labor problems, pollution violation and financial irregularities and that needs to be understood. Further as the sentences are now being handed down, it may be time to discuss the aftermath of the raid. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 11:39, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have sources for any of this? I notice that you haven't provided any sources. Bus stop (talk) 11:51, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, today's New York Times, I entered two reference tags. Did you overlook them? Perhaps you could revert your own edit? Paul, in Saudi (talk) 12:09, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why the raid?

[edit]

There is little published anywhere about why the DHS chose to make this raid. Robert A Pastor in "The North American Idea" (Oxford U Press, 2011) says, p. 84,

"The reason for the helicopter-led raid was that President George W. Bush had to prove to his own Republican party that he would enforce immigration laws after failing to do so for seven years."

Pastor does give a footnote, but it does not point to a relevant source. One presumes Pastor is using his personal sources. Pastor is one who talks to presidents; he may be correct. However, with just this one source, it may not be appropriate to put his assessment on our Wiki page.

FWIW, Pastor inaccurately reports that those arrested in the raid were mostly Mexican.

Cleanup

[edit]

The entire lengthy harassment section seems to have little to do with the raid other than "during the raid they investigated it". Also it is very difficult to verify the accuracy and the sourceWP:V. It also seems to be a deliberate violation of WP:NPOV. It should probably be shortened to one sentence or more likely to be removed and included in an [illegal immigrants working in the US] article. Caseeart (talk) 17:07, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Much of the article seems to have BLP issues (of non convicted people or people who are not notable of being included in wikipedia), original research (taken from government websitesWP:ORIGINAL), poor editing, and deliberate veering off WP:NPOV. For example, there was original research about an individual who is wanted by the ICE. Not only is Wikipedia not a billboard and not original research, but the word "most wanted" was added by the editor, suggesting a possible deliberate WP:NPOVCaseeart (talk) 17:28, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will begin correcting as per above notification. I will begin with the WP:BLP1E rule and remove a large part of the article that contains information about people that are only notable for one event. It also contains original research. Please let us discuss here before putting back the information.Caseeart (talk) 06:58, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Added a section on a public health study centered on the Postville Raid.

[edit]

Note: I'm not a regular Wikipedia contributor and still figuring out best practices. I came across this study and thought it should be mentioned in this article. Welcome suggestions to make it more robust. --Cynthiaarmour (talk) 02:34, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
