Prey drive vs. Predator drive[edit]

This article seems to confuse the two. From what I've read elsewhere, Prey drive is the instinct of a carnivore to chase after prey[1] (or other objects such as balls or frisbees) [2], not a 'flight instinct'. I've never seen the term predator drive used elsewhere (google doesn't show up any results either), so it might be best to move the bottom paragraph to the top, and rename the other paragraph "fight or flight instinct" (similar to Fight or flight), which is characterized by the survival instinct of a prey to flee or to fight back when sensing danger[3]. Either that or incorporate that paragraph into the Fight or Flight article for animals, because it's basically the same term[4]. - Io Katai (talk) 01:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After flipping the information around, and changing the appropriate terms (although the article is in serious need of a rework), I'm proposing to merge Prey drive#Fight or Flight into Fight-or-flight response. All further discussion upon this matter should be done here. - Io Katai (talk) 05:04, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enough Said! I agree. The fight or flight section comes a total no-sequitor. It seems like it might have been put here by mistake. I'd suggest merging it with the proper article without further discussion. Gfanslow (talk) 15:10, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dogs[edit]

What's with the heavy focus on dogs? Dogs are not the only type of predator... I for one think first of big cats or birds ("of prey") when thinking of predatory instinct. 24.171.23.103 (talk) 18:32, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To answer, it's terminology used in dog training, by breeders and by dog behaviourists to analyse characteristics of dogs that interest them.Manytexts (talk) 03:18, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

scientificity[edit]

Is there any actual scientific confirmation for this concept? None is cited in this page. If there isn't, shouldn't the tone of the page reflect that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.27.119.179 (talk) 02:10, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
