Europe[edit]

"because during the European Dark Ages, when Europe lacked interest in science and astronomy,"

This would need to be properly referenced...since many Historians even dispute the notion of "Dark Ages".

Astronomy also gives proper names to periodic comets, galaxies, craters in other planetary bodies, etc.

"Clearly designations, where proper names or other types,(...) [The IAU has] two functions: Organising the assignment of international accepted names to objects where naming is appropriate, and also explaining when naming is superfluous or counterproductive. [meaning that some objects don't need names and are designated only by numbers and letters, like most stars]

Proper names are primarily assigned to objects in the Solar System. Two IAU bodies are responsible for collecting, assigning, and disseminating names according to agreed principles. Names of major planets and satellites as well as surface features on all solar-system bodies are the responsibility of the IAU Working Group on Planetary System Nomenclature, while names of comets and minor planets are assigned by the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature. Final approval of these names is given by the General Assemblies. Links are provided from the IAU web page to the data bases of approved names maintained by each of them."
