Biography of a Living Person

[edit]

Thanks to those who have contributed information to this article: keep up the good work! A friendly reminder that this is a biography of a living person, so we need to take extra care not to misrepresent: (1.) media sources and (2.) comments from Rachel Griffiths herself (even if we feel we are highlighting a good social justice cause).

Additionally, I'd like to highlight the following from Wikipedia policy (see 'Wikipedia is not a Newspaper' if you're not too familiar with this)

However, not all verifiable events are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Ensure that Wikipedia articles are not:

2. News reports. Wikipedia considers the enduring notability of persons and events. While news coverage can be useful source material for encyclopedic topics, most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion and Wikipedia is not written in news style...

4. Celebrity gossip and diary. Even when an individual is notable, not all events they are involved in are. For example, news reporting about celebrities and sports figures can be very frequent and cover a lot of trivia...

It's also worth checking 'Biographies of Living Persons'. Thanks everyone!

Was she in Thank God He Met Lizzie? (...a really good root...?)

[edit]

My memory might be playing tricks... I was sure that Rachel Griffiths was in Thank God He Met Lizzie, playing the main character's (i.e. actor Richard Roxburgh's) second girlfriend, after Frances O'Connor and before Cate Blanchett. But I can't find anything about it online - am I thinking of a different movie? Whatever it was, I saw it in the 90's.

One scene I remember is where they first met - they were in a pub, and I think she was playing pool, and knocked him, spilling his beer, and using that as an excuse to get introduced. Her next question was something like "Wanna root?" (Austrsalian for "Wanna screw?") He was shy and said something about preferring to get to know people, to which she replied "But if you get to know me you might not like me, and then you'd miss out on a really good root."

I also saw Children of the Revolution (film) (1996) but I don't believe it was that. If it wasn't Thank God He Met Lizzie then I can't be sure it was Richard Roxburgh - might have been a film with David Wenham? Or maybe I've got the right film, wrong actress (i.e. should be Frances O'Connor)? Any ideas?

I was about to change the last line in the body of Thank God He Met Lizzie to "Australian actors Jonathan Biggins and Rachel Griffiths also appeared in the film." (But I didn't). --Chriswaterguy talk 23:51, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Beauai 21:52, 21 April 2007 (UTC)A bit of a pedantic point, but in My Son the Fanatic the prostitute Griffiths plays isn't from London, she's from the town in which the film is set, Bradford.[reply]

How do I redirect RusdentoDeakin University? It's the same thing now..so theoretically she is also a Deakin student, just like me yay.Domsta333 12:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputes over birth date and place

[edit]

I edited this article some time ago and reflected in a footnote the varying birthdate/birthplace claims. Multiple sources claim 4 June, 18 December, and 20 February as Griffiths' birthdate (the birth year of 1968 is uniform, however). Additionally, some sources state she was born in Newcastle, not Melbourne. This has since been reverted and her birthdate/birthplace have been restored to 18 December and Melbourne, respectively. Is there any concrete evidence proving this? Per WP:Verifiability, I feel that we should be sticking to the known facts based on the multiple sources, which summarily indicate only that she was born in 1968 in Australia—beyond that, we don't really know. Thoughts? --Drown Soda (talk) 12:02, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
