Notability

[edit]

Currently, the article does not show the sort of coverage that would make the company meet WP:NCORP. There's a lack of non-database sources talking about the company in any sort of depth. Passing mentions and a product review are about as good as it gets here. So I've restored the notability tag that I had placed and another editor had deleted. --Nat Gertler (talk) 13:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Does the "swallowed to a management buyout - citations: NY Times, Forbes, Bloomberg" edit bring it closer? Pi314m (talk) 06:02, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The first thing it makes it is more confusing; if Raxco became Axent, and it was Axent that was bought and sold, at what point did it become Raxco again? Or did someone just buy out some assets from Axent? Bloomsberg doesn't really add anything in terms of notability - it's a database - and trying to figure out how Axent relates to the company currently using the Raxco name seems needed for figuring out how much anything there applies to an article on the current company. --Nat Gertler (talk) 13:29, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@NatGertler: Would Washington Post's 1996 item https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/business/1996/02/19/software-firm-looks-for-security-in-public-offering/3331e52b-7a52-4320-b561-e7a88733dd73 help clarify? As for something more recent, though not WP:RS, how about

http://blog.raxco.com/2012/05/02/welcome-back-2 to indicate that Raxco never disappeared, just was overshadowed by Axent/Symantec. Pi314m (talk) 06:44, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That does add some detail. At the moment I am not going to try to deal with it myself, as I'm in the midst of a few too many off-wiki things to put my mind on this. --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:15, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Added Digital News 1991 item headlined "Raxco releases enhanced VMS monitoring software" Pi314m (talk) 23:17, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

False accusation, personal statement

[edit]

(Wiki) Conflict of Interest list:

In the 1980s and 1990s, Raxco had a collection of 9 (VAX) offerings, using the name Raxco Rabbit _name_ of which 2 are relevant to what follows.

Raxco stopped selling to the Vax world. As I researched and then wrote,
"By 2003 the PC desktop and server market became the company's focus."

Not even primary focus - FOCUS. Would you buy an MS-DOS program?

On the basis of the above, and to not make this personal
(yes, I saw the remark re "recurring requests for deletion as aggravating and pointless trolling"
and am glad I'm not the target of that, but then again I don't like being the target of the "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject" added, since I am, at present, the major contributor).

One more thing: There is a Wiki note regarding making use of Google-translated works from another language Wiki-article. It actually encouraged it, with proper attribution. I did this for PerfectDisk.

Since I know that the accusation is false, I'm removing what was stated. You may feel justified in putting it back. It would be nice if you used Wiki's Contributions tools to see the range of computer and non-computer edits I've made. Yes, I know that each article stands on its own merits. Non military use conditions

[edit]

As I recall, the founders of Raxco were Quakers, and there was a sales condition that anybody using Perfectdisk on VMS couldn't do so if they were military or supplying to the military. I can find nothing at all about this on the Web though so I may well be misremembering. Mind you I can't even find out who the founders were! Lawrie (talk) 02:12, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
