Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted because Ruth Hayward is a significant figure in the San Diego community. She is instrumental in leading the fight to conserve the natural heritage of the area. She is also a well known and much respected local artist. There are numerous references to her all over the internet. Before retirement she worked as an Engineer when there were very few women in this field. She has received an award for her outstanding service as an engineer and tireless volunteer and supporter of homeless women. Please note that this page makes reference to all these online cites. Removing notability tag[edit]

It is not only uncommon to find a female engineer in her generation, it is also rather unusual for a person who takes up art in retirement to have their sculptures displayed in a well-known public location like Balboa Park, which constitutes a "a well-known and significant award or honor," as per WP:ANYBIO. Because these sculptures document local history, and are in such a prominent location (i.e. "part of the enduring historical record"WP:ANYBIO), visitors from other places may well want to look up the artist. This article helps balance the encyclopedia for WP:BIAS on women and the elderly. Djembayz (talk) 18:18, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
