Huge

[edit]

My edit of Queen Salote's height used the word 'huge.' I'd like to thank Apau for pointing out the negative connotations the word might have. 'Gigantic' may also be offensive. Most of what I've read about her usually points to her unusual stature. Might there be some other way to introduce this unobstrusively? Azuka 20:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quote a reference verbatim (and attribute to that reference). References are allowed (or even encouraged) to be books, not just newspapers and websites. --Scott Davis Talk 10:41, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Time magazine quote is temporary. I had a book that mentioned her height, but I forget where I placed it.--T. Anthony 07:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

She was approximately 6'3 and 300 lbs... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.114.58.46 (talk) 17:30, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Auto writes. At the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, during the carriage procession, Queen Salote was riding with a [to me, unknown, but possibly Malay] diminutive gentleman. One of the wits - allegedly Noel Coward, but their is some dispute - when asked who the [comparatively] small guy with her was replied "Her lunch". See, for example - http://bytesdaily.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/quote.html Auto wrote. 2015 07 04 2050 Z 31.49.214.87 (talk) 20:50, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

that story is relayed in James Lees-Milne, A Mingled Measure: Diaries, 1953-1972 (John Murray: London 1994), Lees-Milne was apparently present at the time and attributes it to Coward (though he also states that the man in the carriage was wearing morning suit and top hat, which isn't the case) Ghughesarch (talk) 21:49, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Salote Tupou III?

[edit]

I can't find any woman called Salote Tupou II or Salote Tupou I. How did she get to be Salote Tupou III? Surtsicna (talk) 17:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The III comes fom the fact that she was the 3rd monarch of the Tupou dynasty. Her great great grandfather was George Tupou I, her father George Tupou II, her son Taufa'ahua Tupou IV and her grandson is George Tupou V. You see how it works? Tupou I,II,III,IV,V. The royal family of Tahiti was the same, they were all Pomare I,II,III etc.

Queen Salote Tupou III

[edit]

The Constitutional Monarchy started with:

HIs Majesty George Taufa'ahau Tupou I then (1845-1893, but the Constitution were formalised in 1875),

HIs Majesty Taufa'ahau Tupou II (1893- 1917), then

Her Majesty Salote Tupou II, then (1917-1965)

His Majesty Taufa'ahau Tupou IV (1965-2006), and now its

His Majesty George Taufa'ahau Tupou V (2006- ?). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.31.19.50 (talk) 14:44, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sālote Tupou III

Sālote Tupou III (13 March 1900 – 16 December 1965) served as the first queen regnant and the third monarch of Tonga from 1918 until her death in 1965. Photographed here c. 1910 by Herman J. Schmidt, in Auckland, New Zealand, she was the eldest daughter and heir of King George Tupou II of Tonga and his first wife Queen Lavinia Veiongo. Because of the lowly rank of her mother, she was not popular, and was disliked so much that it was unsafe for her to go outside the palace.
